I'll get straight to point.
Everyone knows about the new Anticheat. Yay, now the whining will finally stop.

But really now. The introduction thread is just too vague.
It doesn't inform us enough.

As I mentioned above, Sentinel has been running on our network for quite a while initially logging data for us to look at then aiding staff members in locating cheaters across the network.
Okay I get it. This Bot/Anti-Cheat collects data and informs it to Staff members. But what kind of Data does Sentinel actually collect?
Data is a very wide term in Programming. It could mean anything. From tracking each game you've been playing to how long you've been standy afk. It could be a list of server you're banned from or a list of servers that you visit. Anything.
Data is just too vague.
So without any lies, what kind of Data does Sentinel actually collect?

2 things. They’re really small and will affect about 0.00000001% of you.
Would it hurt explaining what they are? That percentage could simply be exaggerated.
If it's the Butterfly clicking then I'll come back to that later. Another possibility of these small things could be the knockback decrease that I noticed when playing. But really.
It's vague! What are these things that may affect players? I could also be anything.

Butterfly clicking is the action of using multiple fingers to click the same button on your mouse. As you can see above it allows you to do so very quickly. This means that to us it looks like you're clicking way faster than you should be and will get detected as an offence. Butterfly clicking isn't really very useful in 1.9+ any way due to the changes that Mojang made to combat.
This doesn't inform us enough.
Some people could do the same thing but with one finger.
Really now. What is Cube's CpS limit before Sentinel gets suspicious of your actions? And how will this affect our 1.8 Duels and FFA game experience? Will most of us get kicked after clicking 8 times in 1 second or does this Bot know when someone is actually using an illegal modification?

This release contains just a small section of the detection methods we have after all, science fiction is always telling us what happens when you let Artificial Intelligence run amok.
Just a bit of curiosity. How advanced is Sentinels AI? Does it learn from observing and gathering data or does it simply do it's tasks over and over again? And while I'm at it, did you guys only use Java to program this Anti-Cheat?

Upon initial release we will be running ban waves on a daily schedule and in the future we will be increasing the frequency.
Yeah, it wouldn't hurt telling us when these Ban Waves would happen. would it? And by that I mean specying around what time most Hackers will get banned.

Sentinel is an in-house written system that is always listening to what players are doing and how they’re playing. It has a large number of detections that work together to detect any abnormal behaviour from a player which can then lead to identification of illegal modifications.
Great! But seriously now. Can't you guys be more specific? I can't figure out what kind of hacks/modifications Sentinel actually detects after reading this. This could simply mean every kind of modification/hack or none. It doesn't hurt sharing...

Anyway those are my questions for now. I'll try to come up with ideas on how to improve and expand Sentinel's AI. Or I'll work on some little projects that may inspire the Staff to maybe add that feature for our Current Anti-Cheat.
Also if this is in the wrong section, just simply move it. Idk where to post AC related stuff.

Chalas!

Wow! Great input! I had some of the questions also, but you beat me to it. I agree! It sounds a little fishy, but I trust CubeCraft. I know they want the best for the community and their players.

It's an anticheat on one of the largest servers. Every hack client developer is going to be trying to get around it probably starting today. It was kept vague just so they wouldn't information that would help them get around it :p Honeslty we don't really need to know how it works just as long as it works. :p
Now that I think about it...

Now it all comes together.....

Currently we don't even know what Clients Sentinel blocks.
And making Clients of a just released AC may take as long as this one took to arrive.
By knowing basic Information of the Anti-Cheat people could think of ways to improve it. Keep it up to date so Client Devs don't catch up to Sentinels Secrets. Or just to simply add features to improve it.
Also I'm getting kicked for well, Flying in Minerware ( -_-)
So my experience with this one isn't better imo.

Private tabs in your web browser ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
There is no data they could collect that can badly harm you in any way, in case you're worried

The vanilla knockback calculation is purely based off of ping, it most likely got changed to make it easier/possible to calculate knockback modifiers

This doesn't inform us enough.
Some people could do the same thing but with one finger.

It's most likely not a set limit, its probably based on double clicking. Butterflyclicking is just way more likely to set off such alerts. If there is a set limit I'd guess it's around 20 cps

Yeah, it wouldn't hurt telling us when these Ban Waves would happen. would it? And by that I mean specying around what time most Hackers will get banned.
The problem with telling info like this is that it makes it easier to make a client to bypass the anticheat. If you know when a ban wave is happening, just get on 30 mins before and see if you get banned using certain hacks

People could just use hacks it doesnt detect and get away with it

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Player banned mid game

Anvils falls from sky landing on them
"The banvil has spoken"
What'd be even funnier is a gold item entity stack formed into a disc, shrunk into the hacker's neck, damaging emeralds falling from the sky, and banning the hacker after 20 emeralds. Complete with sound.

"Caesar, this man wants to die rich."
"And so he will, give him this sack of gold and strangle him."

what kind of Data does Sentinel actually collect?

Nothing that violates players privacy, so there's no need to worry about that.

I can't figure out what kind of hacks/modifications Sentinel actually detects after reading this. This could simply mean every kind of modification/hack or none.

We do not need anyone trying to bypass it or try anything with this information so it will not be told.
(not saying you may attempt to but there are people who might although it wouldn't work, lol)
For the rest, it's classified that's why it's vague.
There's nothing shady going on or whatsoever so rest assured.

Sentinel is being worked on and being improved by the devs but feel free to come up with ideas you think may improve it.
You may think nothing it isn't doing much or there isn't any difference but we know what's happening behind the scenes so please be patient with us and trust us if possible. We have the players best interest in mind.
It's still the early stage so lets see how it turns out.

In game behaviour
.

The knockback changes aren't actually live yet (we're still just cleaning a few things up), no idea what your knockback decrease is coming from.
This doesn't inform us enough.

We don't have a "CPS limit", it takes a variety of factors into account whilst making decisions.
Just a bit of curiosity. How advanced is Sentinels AI? Does it learn from observing and gathering data or does it simply do it's tasks over and over again? And while I'm at it, did you guys only use Java to program this Anti-Cheat?
We're not going to reveal any internal details about how Sentinel works, sorry.

No we can't be more specific. If we reveal details about how/what Sentinel does it may give mod authors ways to bypass it, and we end up in a cycle of cat and mouse.
