    Well if you post on threads or actually post threads you gain 1 message
    So posting anything except for private conversations and profile posts will count as messages

    The message count goes up every time you reply on a thread, like any of the threads in the Forums tab of the site. Make sure to be aware of the rules before you post though, or else they might get deleted. Try and keep them relevant and somewhat unique!

    If you comment on profile posts/statuses, the count won't go up in order to prevent message farming.
