I hate Minecraft post 1.8 (1.7 really is my favorite), cube has always been too big for my liking, and I'm working on other things now. The time I spent as mod for cube was great though :)
Eclipse, I don't like certain IntelliJ features.
I was forced to use Netbeans at school though (probably my least favorite).

We plan on posting the "post-ludumdare" version the day before our Cube Game Jam (hype :D)

My main disagreement has to do with math in coding. If you can't understand basic trigonometry, I believe you will be limited as a programmer. Sine and cosine are essential for lots of things in my opinion. For example, try having...
Way too fast of a tutorial for people who don't understand java itself, and way too slow of a tutorial for people who do.
I suggest you just assume the viewer already understands java and teach them Bukkit as if it were its own language.
