I like fall damage more than cactus. With cactus you run the risk of losing drops. I have a spider farm video as well as fall damage grinder video on my YT (link in my signature) The fall damage grinder would work with any mob (other than spiders and ocelots)

I've put together a video on how to do this (youtube link in my signature), but like many have suggested, AFK farms are the best route. People usually start with pigs and then do Creepers. We have 26 pig spawners and make about 8mil/hour off of them.
