Minecraft PS4 edition on skyblock

Its everybody on my skyblock, all of us get the same message when we hit mobs.

My Iron Sword has suddenly started to lose durability when fighting mobs, is this something that has recently been changed or is it a bug? It also says "checking item" in the text box whenever I hit a mob with any item, not just swords.
