My opinion is that this could be helpful against not only cleaners, but teamers as well. I have fought my share of teamers in 1v2s on solo mode, and most of those times, I was able to kill at least one of them. If I had this ability, I might have live and defeated the other person/people as well.

My suggestion would be no. This would make it even harder to get the egg, as players will have tnt after they respawn. The only way this could be balanced would be if the players only had 1 - 2 tnt. If you play strategically, that much should be enough.

Actually, you don't have to be higher than them. If they build up, you can just both build up to world build height. You just have to be high enough that they cannot easily drop tnt-bombs on you.
