What kind of computer/OS are you using? Maybe I can help! I have a terrible computer and there was too much lag at first for me too, but I managed to fix it with settings/optifine.

It's not pure luck, it's dependent on your strategy vs your opponents strategy. That part is luck, just like rock, paper, scissors. Whoever picks the more fitting strategy will win.

You have a ladder, but you can't access the bridge without at least 2 blocks I believe. It's too tall and you can't jump to it.
