I have a similar suggestion, just make a NPC-driven trading hall, players have to stock npcs, and you have to have a new NPC per area. You can only stock an npc with it's corresponding island's native materials

It would be devastating to builders to add Glowstone decay. They would either have to add a lot more lag tracking whether or not a Glowstone was connected to a tree, or make all glowstone decay, and that wouldn't work because you wouldn't be able to have unobtrusive Glowstone due to needing...
My suggestion is (works best on coop) a fully automated death machine. Use all of your balance on items, and then build a bed. Use blocks and water to throw you into the grinder. Creeper explodes, drops gunpowder. Grinder complete.
My main questions is: What is the point of Gold Ore? It is 3 gold to buy and only yields 1. The only reason I can think of is as storage, and Chests are far superior
Also, part if the problem is
1. I did my enchanting when Stone was still flat 10 Xp per enchant (pre-Nether)
2. You probably lost most of your XP in those lives
