destroy the core

In the gamemode "destroy the core" in giga blockwars some time after the gamemodes return a change was made which caused the core blocks to take a really long time to break, in this clip it took me around 50 seconds with an enchanted iron pickaxe, and I just wanted to ask if this is intentional...
