This is simple, if one players has only 1 path for a tower, the other players can upgrade the tower to this path. The player cant select a path because it only has 1

The one thing that Tower defense is missing, the 2x2 tower. Now it wouldn't be a tower that attacks troops, but rather, supports enemies. One 2x2 Tower could help the fire rate of ajacent towers, or boost damage, or maybe give towers another ability like slowing down enemies or stunning them...
