Please note I am talking about vanilla 1.11 shields and not cubecraft shields.
you can always attact people with shields from behind, and they can't fight back, so you still win the battle
2 You can attack from behind
Do you realize how easy it is to track a player with a shield. To put this in perspective I hid behind a shield fighting against two of my friends who I could say would out pvp 99% of the people on cubecraft and it took them a grand total of 3 minutes to finally kill me. Even with the two of them all I had to do was back into a corner and they couldn't do anything until the shield completely broke which took a while with stone swords.
Shields will be useful in eggwar, because you won't be knocked off the island by a naked guy (no more threads about removing spawn protection! ).
As long as you have some armor a shield will take no damage from a fist. I tested this out in 1.11 snapshots. So this nerf would have no effect on that situation.
In eggwar and ffa, shields are super expensive, so they don't need to be nerfed.
I don't really mind for eggwars as axes are very available but for FFA and Sg is where I don't like them. Even with lava buckets in Sg you can only have so many before you run out and TNT won't help you as that is also blocked by shields. In FFA a normal player(except an alchemist) has no way to counter it at all.

You will win but it will take you way too long to do so if all you have is a sword.
Snowballs / eggs cant be countered by a shield
What are these going to do in a regular fight? Knock them around a bit? Sounds like you will make more progress just swing at the shield for a couple minutes waiting for it to break. Again I am more worried about Sg, FFA, and dueling (skywars sort of since there are not that many axes)

They are also dirt cheap in skywars: 1 iron, 6 planks they should break much faster as they are so cheap. You will just have to carry more with you and use repair crafting to your advantage. Or actually skillfully use your shield to block key attacks to conserve durability.
FFA: bow spammers can finally stop there annoying raid
Eggwars: People bow spam to punch other off the edge. Shields can stop this
How will a nerf in durability also remove these features of shields. I've player FFA and bow spamming is more harmful to the bow spammer than to the target as they are wasting valuable arrows. Strafing a bow spammer isn't hard and even if you are hit you won't take much damage at all. In eggwars you can simply buy two shields which should be easy to combat campers as you have control over every other diamond generator on the map.
And what about 1.9 warrior those matches will take forever now. Again as well this nerf wouldn't even effect the op as:
Minewars: Duel against all players use shields and most of the time, player need to open more chest because they have a shield and not a weapon.
How will this change at all?
I don't want to update to 1.11. Goodtiger will never drop 1.7 support lol
I play almost nothing but 1.11 vanilla servers now. I came on cubecraft for 1 hour since 1.11's release and have only played 1.11 pvp during the rest of the time I've been on.
Shields are one of only five additions to come to Minecraft since its conception that have had an impact on PvP, with the others being 1.9, enchantments, potions and axes. I don't think they should be nerfed, as they still have their counters.
This is talking about 1.11 shields which reduce all damage (except environmental) by 100% as well as knockback. This nerf shouldn't come into effect until cubecraft starts using 1.11 shields.
