The twist being that you can find different level items. Such as if I was to make a diamond sword from a tier 1 diamond it would be weaker that a normal sword. Tier 2 is slightly weaker than a normal sword, tier 3 is equal to a normal sword, and tier 4 is better than a normal sword.
The material level affects how much damage it will do, the stick decides the attack speed.(the stick also has levels)

You can't cross mix tiers either.(unless you guys want that. You can put a level 1 stick with 2 level 2 diamonds though.

Level 1 iron chestplate gives less protection than normal chestplate, level 2 gives slightly less protection, level 3 gives normal protection, and level 4 gives more than normal protection.

This is optional but make it so that food also has levels. A level 1 cooked steak would give 2 bars, a level 2 would give 3 bars a level 3 would give 4 bars and level 4 would give 5 bars.(just an example)

*Bump* Don't want this to go completely neglected.
How will Cube code that? There's only one ID for ores (e.g. one ID for diamond ore) and specific swords such as diamond swords, no other tag. Even in the old SG where there were weapon prefixes such as "damaged, damaging, legendary, weak" the weapons didn't deal more or less damage. That just affected their starting durability.

However, I would love Cube to step away from spoiling the players with tons of finished items and food and make SG based more on crafting (e.g. only a very few arrows in chests and mostly raw materials or diamonds only instead of diamond equipment).

If there's a will there's a way. Also they could use a texture packs to show the different level items, then check when there are specifc items in specific spots in the crafting table to give you the item.

I have to say it. This already exists. It's called different ores! All your idea suggests is making more tiers in between the ores, which will not happen fully, but does already exist in the form of enchantments.
