DDoS Protection - Tutorial

Hello there guys!

Many people have been getting attacked and they don't know how to act and protect them selves. So I decided to make this to help out :)


To start of, the definition of DDoS is Distributed Denial of Service. That means that one or multiple computers keep sending packets to a website/IP Address to shut them off temporarily.
The people who do this are in big danger because if caught, they will get in jail; and depends how much damage they did, the time may vary.


You may be asking; " How can I protect myself from such thing? "

When you open a browser or anything that needs internet access; your IP is public for anyone to get. The IP is the key for a DDoS attack and it isn't very hard to hide it.

To start of, you could use a VPN. A VPN is a Virtual Private Network, and that means that a VPN is a network technology that creates a secure network connection over a public network such as the Internet or a private network owned by a service provider.

You can also use, Proxies. With a proxy, you can get to browse the internet normally. But actually, if someone looks up your IP using a resolver, it will show a different IP than your real one.

The last thing is a browser that lets you browse the internet anonymously.


" How can I use these methods to protect myself? "

VPN's:
There are Free and Buy-able VPN's.
I would recommend buying a good VPN because it's a really important thing for your safety.

I have CyberGhostVPN Premium. It's a really good VPN that offers you anonymity, safety and freedom.
There are other good VPN's out there like HotSpot Shield, HideMyAss, IPVanish, IBVPN, etc.

If you can't afford a buy-able VPN, there are also free ones!
VPN Book, OkayFreedom, and you could simply use trails of different VPN's.


Proxies:
To use a proxy, open your browser ( I recommend Tor - I'll talk about it an a bit), go to https://hide.me/en/proxy and enter the URL that you would like to visit choosing the country you want.

Again, hide.me is a free proxy service. Almost with all buy-able VPN's, there is a much bigger list of countries and it won't lag that much as it's not public for everyone.

Always use a proxy when you watch a Twitch stream as it's very easy to get your IP through it.


Anonymous Browsers:
The best anonymous browser out there is Tor's Project Browser. It's a free browser, that keeps your surfing experience much safer.


Edit:
With only your Skype Username, anyone could get your IP Address, your ISP, and even the approximate location of where you live using GeoLocation.

I know the maximum in England is 12 months. In the USA, I know of a case where they got 2 years. Moral of the story, it'll land you in jail if you're caught.

your IP is public for anyone to get.

Let me start by saying that is partly true, partly complete bullshit.

If you know what you're doing online you don't need a VPS/Proxy or Tor.

There are 3.7 billion public IP addresses in the IPv4 internet, and 340 undecillion unique addresses in the IPv6 internet (which soon will be the only one due to IPv4 address exhaustion) finding one single person, is quite hard.

Now let me point out why these days its actually easy to find someone, most of us run applications like Skype or more, which are the key way attackers usually find IP addresses of home users, since when you start up Skype, it automatically sends your IP to the Microsoft servers, so that they can direct Skype calls or messages to the correct destination (you), this also leads to users knowing your Skype username to be able to see it as well.

There are other applications that share your IP's, but the most commonly used one is Skype, as everyone uses it.

Because of this, Skype has security options that no one knows about to prevent this, however, no one knows about them, so no one uses them. Theres a little tick box under advanced settings (on all versions of Skype, even for mobile) that states "Allow direct connections to my contacts only" which, for everyone in their right mind, should be ticked.

I have not been using VPN's or proxies (even though I can, very easily with my own servers) for years now, and never had any issues, despite the amount of people that know about me (and dislike me).

I only made this thread to help out others that don't really knoe about this :)

In the US if it the first offense the max is 4 years, second offense max 25 years, third offense max is Life. But it kinda depends on the sentencing jury and the judge.

[Story]

DDoS Protection isn't needed, based on the amount of computers and gear needed to actually perform a successful attack isn't really worth the hassle. Especially to just pick on one individual person.
To Anyone who doesn't understand, if you DOS a network, successfully, you basically put it offline and unavailable to users, you basically overload it by sending it junk data.
