CubeKart

Hello, Cubecrafters!

Today I want to introduce a new game idea I came up with in the last days.
Basically it is racing in Minecraft or formula 1 in Minecraft. I was just thinking about that Cubecraft only has 7 games at the moment (not including the featured games). Five of those 7 games are PvP based and Tower Defence is kind of a PvE game. I thought that it would be nice if Cubecraft had some more games that are not based on PvP.

I have been working out this idea together with @TheSadPotato_ and we have got the following features for the game:

Basic Information

So, in this game, you will have to race against 7 other players (So the game will be played with 8 players) to be the first one to get over the finish line. But we thought that just racing was not enough fun. We wanted to add like a tactical element to the game with pitstops, different tires, weather and time of the day. I will come back on those later in this thread. We wanted to a feature where you can customize your car, it won't affect the performance of the car, only the looks of the car, but I will also come back on that later in this thread.

Tire Types

There will be 5 different types of tires you can use, just like in the real formula 1:

- Soft
- Medium
- Hard
- Intermediate
- Full-Wet

Sunny Weather Tires:
The Soft tires are the tires with the most grip, but they also have the least durability.

Durability: 2.5 laps
Colour:
Red
The Medium tires have an average grip and average durability.

Durability: 4.5 laps

Colour: Yellow
Hard tires have the most durability but also have the least grip.

Durability: 6.2 laps

Colour: White

Rainy Weather Tires:
Both of these tires don't have that much grip on the track when it is sunny weather.

Intermediate tires are made for half-wet tracks, they don't have the most grip, but they have the most durability.

Durability: 5 laps

Colour: Green
Full-Wet tires are made for, as the title says, full-wet tracks. They have the most grip but have less durability

Durability: 3.5 laps

Colour: Blue

Snowy Weather Tires:

Well, there actually are no snowy weather tires, you will just have to think about the best strategy to win this type of races ;)

Vote Options

There will be 4 different vote options for this game:

- Circuit
- Weather
- Laps
- Time

- Circuit
Circuit (Non-ranked feature)

Everyone will be able to vote for which circuit they want to race on, just like in Linde Dash where you can vote for the map.
- Weather
Weather (Ranked feature - Diamond)

With the Diamond rank, you can vote for the weather. The weather will affect the grip on the race track and will force you to make choices on which tire type you are going to use. The different weather types that you can vote for are:

- Sunny
- Rainy
- Snowy

Sunny

When it's sunny on the circuit, your grip will be just normal and you can use whatever tire type you want.

Rainy

When it is raining on the circuit, you will have less grip on the race track. You can better choose one of the tires that are made to be used on wet tracks. (Intermediate and Full-Wet)

Snowy

When It's snowy on the circuit, you will have a terrible grip on the race track, no tires are made for this type of weather. You will have to make good tactics to win this race in the snow.
- Laps
Laps (Ranked feature - Gold)

With the Gold rank, you will be able to vote for the number of laps needed to finish the race. The different vote options are:

- 3 Laps
- 5 Laps
- 7 Laps
- 12 Laps

You will have to make a great pitstop tactic for some of those options!
- Time
Time (Ranked feature - Lapiz)
With the Lapiz rank, you will be able to vote for the time of the day, just like in other game modes like Skywars and Eggwars.

Pitstops

In order to change tires, you will have to make a pitstop. I think that this can be done by having a pit street, like in Formula 1 at the finish line. You will have an item in your inventory from where you can select the tires you want to have on your kart. There will be a time that you have to wait until this is done. The default time will be 4 seconds and you will be able to upgrade your pitstop time with points, just like the abilities in SkyWars and EggWars. The best time you can have would be 1.9 seconds. every time you upgrade it, the price of the next upgrade would be more expensive. Some examples of prices:

Level 1 (3.9 sec) - 450 points
Level 2 (3.8 sec) - 900 points
Level 3 (3.7 sec) - 1350 points
Level 4 (3.6 sec) - 1800 points

+450 points at every level.

Example of the tire selector:

Karts

I thought that it would be nice if the karts would just minecarts, but with an optional texture pack where the minecart is turned into a real racing kart! I have searched for some examples of 3D models:
maxresdefault.jpg

1534947362_karts-addon-1.jpg

maxresdefault.jpg
When there is a texture pack, another cool feature would be if you could have the option to customize your kart! You would be able to change the colour of the kart, and maybe add a pattern to the karts so you can have 2 different colours on your kart! Maybe you could these "skins" be found in cubelets, or buy it with points. I think that there should also be some "premium skins" that are only available for certain ranks. If this gets added, I'd recommend people to play with a texture pack because otherwise, you will just see a minecart. ;)

I've seen server using a diamond hoe as the item for a car, I don't know if this is better for texture pack makers, but I don't think that that will be a good idea since people could also play without texture pack. That's more for the design team to decide. c:

Leaderboards (@Finixly)

There should, of course, be a leaderboard for the most wins, but why shouldn't we add a leaderboard too for the fastest lap? That would be a great idea too I think. Both of these leaderboards should have 200 places, just like the other games have.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's it for me, let me know what you think of this idea. c:

Want to thank @TheSadPotato_ again for helping me with this idea!

I don't know if I'd enjoy racing as much in Ḿinecraft compared to other racing games.
I thought that it would be nice if Cubecraft had some more games that are not based on PvP.
This I do agree with though.

The idea to me sounds pretty fun :) , I don't think it'd work with vanilla stuff only though so there'd have to be quite a lot of dev-work and all that jazz. Doesn't make the game less appealing though :D. I like how you implemented "kits" / "abilities" in the form of cart and weather updates, they honestly all sound pretty balanced and varied. In short: I like it.

However, I did some quick research... found this old suggestion that overlaps a bit with yours: https://www.cubecraft.net/threads/mario-kart.33642/
Where the ol' Tacosbefriends commented "It's been suggested before (by me :p). It got shot down because lots of other servers have similar games. It's a really neat idea though."

Even though you made the game way more original than the idea from the linked thread was, I still think it'll be classified as a 'Mario Kart style racing game' which has, according to Tacos, been shot down in the past.

Okay wow. I actually really like this idea even though I don't really like the real racing games. But this idea sounds like it got some attention from me. Also the pitstop and different tires idea sounds great tbh.

Though, I have absolutely no idea if this is even possible (I do hope so because it's a really detailed and nice idea). If it is, I would love to see it and I would definitely play this a few times to check if I actually really like it, but only the idea of having different weathers, tires et cetera sounds very good to me.

Level 1 (3.9 sec) - 450 points
Level 2 (3.8 sec) - 900 points
Level 3 (3.7 sec) - 1350 points
Level 4 (3.6 sec) - 1800 points
Is this correct though? You're not going to tell me that per 0,1 second I have to pay 450 points extra? I mean is time really that important in racing games?

Of course it is. First of all: with actual code (meaning plug-ins) you're able to add pretty much all you can think off. This kart racing idea can probably be pulled off with command blocks alone, which are more limited but keep you in vanilla. I've seen way more complicated games done via command blocks only. Of course it's "possible to make"

is time really that important in racing games?
Lol. Well it's literally the only important thing in racing games. r/whoosh me if you want. But I'll agree that .1 seconds isnt gonna matter to much if games can last up to 12 laps.

Thanks for elaborating. I mean I've never coded something in my life. So literally anything is possible in Minecraft with coding?

So racing skills isn't gonna do much in racing? I know you can only win with the best time, but you drive the best time with good racing skills right?

You're giving me a feeling of that I am the most dumbest person
Not my intentions, my bad ^^

you drive the best time with good racing skills right?
That should be the goal of realistic racing games, yes. If, however, you're playing a more casual racing game, which this one surely would be. There are usually luck factors involved too. What I meant by saying "time is the only important thing" , I meant that it doesn't matter how good you are on paper and how well-equipped your car is for the selected 'weather' , if you dont score a good time, you won't win. Just like your kill count in skywars doesnt change the outcome in the game much, just a little though since your gear will most likely be better.

No problem, can happen.

That's why I never understand Formula 1, gotcha.

The amount of time per level could be changed to maybe 0.3 or something, but I think that it shouldn't be that cheap since it will ruin the game if everyone gets the highest time upgrades at the start of the game.

The only thing that would be the same as Mario Kart is the racing part, all other stuff is not in Mario Kart. And powerups should not be a thing in this game since then it will just kind of be wing rush on the ground. c:

Well, I don't know servers that have this game though, maybe back in 2015 servers had it but I think they removed it...

Nono, you're absolutely right in that. I actually thought of making it more expensive, but that could be me. I mean you gotta be rewarded for playing the game by gaining points you can put it the speed of your pitstop. But if you have the highest ability of that, you have more chance of winning the game as your pitstop length is less longer than others (who don't have their ability high or even just 0% progress).

Yeah, but you also get an advantage in other games with abilities ;p

I kind of like the idea of this game, although something in me tells me this will be like parkour. The first (few) weeks people will play it, but after a period of time people won’t be interested anymore since the game is just a little too simple in my opinion.
Also I feel like this game isn’t really in the genre that CubeCraft is currently in. With that I mean games as hide and seek, murder mysterie, etc.
I like the idea but I don’t think CubeCraft is yhe right server to create it.

That's exactly why this game should be added. If you want to have a bigger community, you have to have games in different types of genres, not only PvP games I guess.

I understand what you mean but think about it, parkour, mineware and tower defense aren’t the games that made CubeCraft such a big server. It’s skywars and eggwars. I agree, if CubeCraft wants to grow, they should release new game-modes now and then but more in PvP style.

Cube should focus on a big non pvp based game so that the people who aren't that good/like to not pvp also have something to play and enjoy. For my knowledge people were more in the old lobbies than in an actual game, but these are just my thoughts. :P

+1 cubecraft already has this option with 1 different game mode (left of lucky islands) they could add it there. I do agree that it is not really the same as the rest of the cubecraft genre!
