Now, before anyone says "Please post this in Mac's thread" this covers the entire update, not just speed mode. That's why I made my own thread about this.

As some of you know, this is the second eggwars update in a row where I was disappointed in what came out of it. Speed mode was something with great potential that just straight up splatted to the ground.
I'm going to go through the full change log to give feedback on everything.
Added 12 unique achievements to normal mode
- Added 10 new achievements to speed solo mode
- Added 11 new achievements to speed team mode
Obviously nothing to complain about here.
Added half health vote option to both normal and speed
I don't have a problem with this, but problems inevitably come up. Normal mode power bows one hit kill. Stone+ axe criticals one hit kill. I don't think this is a problem, but I wanted to talk about OP. Most people wanted a small nerf to OP mode. Protection 4 with normal health is basically no different than Prot 5 with Normal Health and with Half Health it's basically the same as Normal.
Now, I know some of you will be like "But Build I thought you'd like that" and while it's okay by me pretty much nobody except the active forums members prefer that over OP Normal. I also still prefer Normal Items with Normal or Half Health because I don't like how quickly you can get obsidian in overpowered.

TL;DR: While most people wanted a small or moderate nerf to OP, we either got the exact same or normal mode.

Suggestion to Fix: I don't really have one, you can come up with your own.

Can't have half health and hardcore mode at the same time
This makes absolutely no sense. I'd actually rather do hardcore half than hardcore normal because:
If you win a close fight in hardcore with 1-2 hearts, you need 3-4 golden apples to get your health back. This is a huge waste of time and it's better to just jump off the edge most of the time. With half health, you only need 1 golden apple which isn't a waste of time and you can keep moving just fine.

If you're going to keep it this way, you should also make it so you can't do OP with Double or Triple health in 1.9 (It can be done in 1.8)

- Team members now have bold names
- Team colour in sidebar and tab is bold
- Added colours as letters before players names to help with colour blindness

Obviously, nothing to complain about here. Great idea!

KB Shovel Kit: Do we really need more knockback items?
Golden Armor: Yeah, let's just give these guys a massive advantage by making a kit worth 40 gold in normal and 120 in hardcore!
Eggsplosives: Why add a TnT kit if you can't bomb jump with it? Useless!
Speed Kit: lol
Steak Kit: Yeah, let's just give people resistance making eating food mid-fight even more OP!
Mastermine: A kit that's half decent and balanced! Yay!

Everything else was a pretty good addition, not going to comment on that.

I'm now done part 1 of the rant! Part 2, all about speed mode, will be done later today!

you do have points and i do agree on some parts however there are some that is interesting and i do kinda want to see it play out i guess we will see but nice thread love the points you made

I have to disagree with that. Even though it being a seemingly small change, over the time it's clear how much this impacts gameplay.
It has really been implemented nicely, especially in OP Speed Mode, two things that don't really sound... normal together.
You can actually kill somebody without having to break their armor now.
I almost killed a full iron with a stone sword, I mean, geeez. I did take some really have hits though.
OP is now somewhat enjoyable. It takes longer to end, but not infinite, time to end.
Consider that Prot IV is the maximum vanilla Protection value, too. (well Efficiency VIII Pickaxes owell)

Trust me, that kit is a total scam. The KB 1 doesn't really do much, and the shovel has a crappy DPS so it's pretty useless.

I agree with this. It gives more overall defense than leather armor.

TNT Is a useful in situations where you need to quickly explode bridges, as you know, speed mode is pretty quick.

The biggest issue that I've had with speed mode, is the fact that you literally get an insanely fast movement speed AND you can chose a kit that gives you the speed 2 effect. Who even came up with that kind of nonsense?
What speed mode should've been IMO is Normal mode, but then with some OP mode prices (Examples: Sandstone, Steak, pickaxes, TNT)
It just ended up fixing one of the big problems (being camping).
But in return, that demonic speed effect.
I don't stand a chance against a hacker with B-hops in speed mode because of that.
They can move way faster without me being able to do anything, and I can barely aim because of how fast eveything is going.

Now for half health:
I don't really mind it, as if I don't want to play with it I can just leave the game (Omg who would've thought, right?)

That's the thing that really disappointed me the most. It makes the game too frenetic and extremely hard to move around. It feels too arcade-ish. Not necessarily a bad thing though.

Honestly its probably the most op kit when it comes down to it :P gold armor offers worse protection than chain as has lower durability so I'm fine with that kit. The knockback kit should go though as its incredibly op with spawn protection

Maybe to you, but not to me.

There's a giant difference between prot V and prot IV. I played a game of teaparty and it's actually feasible now to kill someone in leather with just normal hits, and it's even easy if you have a sharpness V sword/bow. Even against full iron it's not that hard anymore as long as you have the sharpness V sword. No need to lock them up and spam TNT everywhere anymore (although it's still helpful). I won a 3v1 where everyone had full iron without first breaking their armor (although I killed one guy using the TNT room method), so yes, there is a huge difference between protection V and IV. I'll make a video with my punching bag OranosDragon again.

As for:
and with Half Health it's basically the same as Normal.
Except for:
-Epreals
-Cheaper blocks and food
-Easier to regen
-Cheaper TNT
-No worrying about fall damage
-Diamond armor
-Power V bows and Sharpness V swords
etc.

This TRIGGERS me. TNT is far from useless, and this kit might be one of the best. You can use TNT to blow up stuff like bases, players and items. Plus, TNT does quite a lot of damage(OP mode excluded) to players. Want to destroy an egg surrounded by obsidian without being bothered by fistfighting naked players? TNT is the answer my friend. and the best part of it all? It doesn't damage YOU, which it does if you want to TNT jump. In a nutshell it's far form useless.

As for speed mode I have a lot to rant about too, it's nothing like what the community and mostly you meant. The speed effect is horrible, normal PVP isn't doable anymore, it's a lot harder to distinguish hackers from normal players due to players having more reach from the speed, speedbuilding, etc. Obsidian is very cheap which is the opposite of what you suggested, just like other things. Right now it's more a case of who gets to mid first, since there's also almost no bridging required, and you have a significant advantage with that EFF V pickaxe for 10 diamonds. What's also triggering me is the fact that obsidian is a lot cheaper, but steak, blocks and especially TNT isn't. Very sad.

Now let's wait for your rant about speed mode.

I do agree with some of this. Honestly I LOVE speed eggwars more then normal eggwars. Also, I love the kb shovel. :P OP was massively nerfed, have you actually played op yet? You can actually kill people while they have armor on and full hunger!!!! I see no problem with that.

great thread dude i think that perfectly sums up all of our views. tbh my views are that i dont like half health and im not rlly a fan of the speed mod in team as i just find it annoying. however speed solo is great fun. i reckon that the only thing that should be done is more staff put onto dealing with hackers as they are the biggest annoyance when after a 1hour game you lose to a hacker

I'm honestly neutral about the update. I really don't see any problems with it even with the knockback shovel kit, as it doesn't deal that much knockback anyway (for me atleast) It's honestly smarter to just use your fists if you want to deal good knockback and about the OP nerf, have you ever even played OP after the nerf? There's a very noticable difference between prot 4 and prot 5 as iron swords do around 1-1.5 hearts of damage to leather. The downside to the nerf is that you cant build as high anymore (By building high I mean building up out of punchbowspam reach and then just jump down when they aren't expecting anything.)

In my opnion speed mode is a big success, as it's very neat to just run around at the speed of sound (killme..) I played like over 20 games today and all of them ended in like 10-15 minutes and I haven't seen a single player with a bow or iron armor. it's also very nice to have better pickaxes in OP mode because, dude, 1 gold for 1 obsidian? Who came up with that idea anyway? but, I can see why some people are disappointed.


Also, to all the players saying speed mode "sucks" because you "can't hit anyone," look kiddo let me give you the BEST solution for this problem: Git gud.

I agree with all your rants, and the speed about the speed kit, why put a speed kit in speed mode, you'll just go a bit faster big deal, that kit is worthless, honestly, you already have speed for the entire game, why buy a kit that is comepletly worthless?
Also the knockback kit is very overpowered, in maps like western and mushrooms you have to get emeralds to get a knockback item, but this kit gives you a knockback off the start, instead of going to mid to get emeralds and having to wait to get a knockback item, some people get it straight off the bat, the only good use for this kit is in op mid, but in other modes it's useless.
Also the golden armor kit is very overpowered, especially in hardcore, some people think the egg Armour kit is op for hardcore, well heck this is even more hardcore mode, but I absolutely love this kit for normal mode in speed eggwars.

I totally 100% agree with this. Axes/Power bow's in half health mode are basically way to OP. Already on my 1st week and I had some close fights due to axes.

I actually agree with this. Having half health in hardcore mode makes sense. The weapons you get in the beginning of the game are over priced. Since they are over priced, you are less likely to come across axes. Especially with bow, they will actually be balanced with the half health.

I actually agree with this. Having half health in hardcore mode makes sense. The weapons you get in the beginning of the game are over priced. Since they are over priced, you are less likely to come across axes. Especially with bow, they will actually be balanced with the half health.
tbh i think that hardcore needs something extra to make it more interesting as the reason OP is so popular is because it has interesting things to do like buying ender pearls and that amazing feeling you get when you get the GOD set. so i think that hardcore half health could be interesting but not necessarily as popular as any other game. conclusion, i think that hardcore needs something extra to make it more popular and fun

Yes Build. I agree with everything you've said here. What many people expected is the removal of bows or obsidian or something like that in Speed. You've done a great job writing this thread. The only things as you have pointed out are the fact that they made team names bold, and the new achievements. Apart from that, what else have they done in this update? ADDED A KNOCKBACK ITEM!?

Are they even paying attention to the Punch Bow removal threads anymore? We had so many people protesting to remove it, and what did they do? They added a knockback mushroom. Protests against that, and of course against the punch bow were still strong. What do they add next? A knockback shovel? Are you serious here? Knockback items are the most annoying thing in this game and promoting it by adding more and more items is just, unfortunate to say, ruining the game. So many people want them removed and if they keep adding more, I'm not sure what's going on.

I do like the update from a general stand point, the games are quicker, but I'm sure people will find a way to make the game annoying, especially with the knockback item.

Half health. Great job! I love have health, it makes OP games less annoying. But why are we not allowed to have hardcore and half health? Because people will die faster? Well, in case it hasn't been noticed, 1 shot with the punch bow, 1 good hit with the mushroom, 1 nice slap with the shovel will also kill even faster, and easier.

Build, this thread is truly correct.

I need that speed mode rant. Do tag me in it, I am an Egg Wars player. ;)

So, let's start out with something that is discussed all but so much on the forums. Obsidian rank perks. This was a great chance to give obsidian rank a well needed perk. No surprise, you blew it. I know some of my arcade voting options that I suggested might be added and I plan on re-suggesting hard mode soon, but still this could have been a great perk. That's aspect one.

Now, let's talk about the speed mode itself. My fastest game on speed mode was about five minutes, on forest, with one team vacant, normal items half health.

Comparatively, this is all the normal maps that my fastest game was faster than this:
Minions: 2 Min 9 Sec
Safari: 2 Min 24 Sec
Rome: 2 Min 37 Sec
End: 3 Min 14 Sec
Forest (Normal): 3.5 Min
Toys (Normal): 3.5 Min
Tentacles: 4 Min
Western: 4 Min
Treehouse: 4 Min
Space: 4.5 Min
Snowy: 4.5 Min
Candy: 4.5 Min

That's TWELVE maps where my fastest normal game was faster than my fastest speed mode game! That's 30% of all the maps available!
But it gets worse when you see the maps I've finished between 5 and 10 minutes!

Instruments: 5 Min
Pizza (On Hardcore Mode): 5 Min
Golf: 5 Min
Garden: 6 Min
Tropical: 6 Min
Teepee: 6 Min
Mine (On Hardcore Mode): 7 Min
Storm: 7 Min
Oriental: 7 Min
Village: 7 Min
Dwarven: 8 Min
Farm: 8 Min
UnderDaSea: 9 Min
Stronghold: 9 Min

That's right folks. My fastest game on the infamous CamperDaSea was a mere four minutes longer than my fastest game on speed mode. Now for the other maps:

Aztec: 11 Min
Kingdom (On OP Mode): 12 Min
Fairground: 13 Min
Nightmare: 15 Min
Steampunk: 18 Min
Mushrooms: 21 Min
Teaparty (On Hardcore Mode): 24 Min

So, on 36/40 (90%) or without the new maps (which I excluded) 30/34 (86%) the fastest game was on normal mode. That's aspect two.

Now let's talk about obsidian. If you're trying to make the game go faster, give me one half decent reason why you would keep obsidian, let alone make it cheaper. That's aspect three.

Now let's talk about bows. Why would you keep bows??? That's aspect four.

So, in conclusion speed mode should have been a voting option available on all maps. It should be mostly normal with OP prices in blocks (except obsidian), food (Except g-apples and god apples), no obsidian, and no bows. Thanks.

Why wouldn't you keep bows? The whole point of the game is to break other people eggs and bows allow you to prevent that. If you don't like getting knocked off the map by bows build and tunnel instead of a on block wide bridge or come up with other ways of combating it (e.g. a shield)

It's called SPEED MODE for a reason. Play normal mode if you want bows.

I've only encountered one bow in the games I've played so far and the guy lasted all of ten seconds before I killed him. However I do agree they should be removed from speed mode.
I also agree that obsidian should be removed as all it does is delay the time it takes for you to break the egg. 9.99/10 times, I'll get that egg no matter how much obsidian is covering it. So it kind of conflicts with the idea of speed mode.
The only other thing I would like to add is that providing you play with friends that are also good at the game then every game you play will more often than not be over in a matter of minutes.
So I think it only needs a few tweaks to improve it.
With regards to the KB shovel, I've encountered many players using it but these are mostly low skilled players that are easily taken care of.
