Yes, I like this idea.
However, it should be either a hidden quest or a side quest, since most people are already past that point of the game, and adding it as a main quest would be kind of unfair for others.
Maybe you could've posted this in Suggestions.

If I recall correctly, melons come before you get access to gold, so this would make little sense in my opinion. At least with the golden carrots you already have access to gold.
