People just came up with a name and then everybody started to use it in order to communicate
And they made a Wikipedia page, so people who are wondering why it isn't called 'Hallopumpkin' can find out what the actual name means. And, presuming that you don't know, Wikipedia is a site full of information about basically anything, so people can learn something from it. They have a page for nearly every single object, so also, 'surprisingly', a page for Halloween.
