This week I came across a video in the YT recommendations of a famous Spanish youtuber trying out an Ice Boat Racing server and after watching it my first impression was that I had to try it and that's what I did and after a few hours of playing and watching more content on yt I thought it would be a good and fun idea to be able to see this in cubecraft, that's why I'm making this thread where I would like to propose the idea of having this modality within the server and give a general idea of what it could be like.


First of all, there have already been proposals in the forum to introduce this to the server (I've attached the links to some threads below), but most of them were neither worked on very much nor given much attention. Other responses in these threads also say that they wouldn't see it as a mode in itself, but rather as a minigame of minerware. But I think that this mode is more complex and has a community behind it that makes it more interesting beyond what it may seem at first glance.

These are races that can be done on a flat ice surface and with the use of boats, which can reach high speeds thanks to the ice, making it possible to race. But since it is better to see it than to imagine it, I am leaving you with a montage so you can get a general idea of what it is in broad strokes.

Now that we know what it is, the next step is to know what types of modalities ice boat racing offers (Later I will tell you the idea of how to adapt one of these to make it fit better on the server). Within the ice boat racing there are two main types, there are more types but they usually require mods.

It's about the typical 3-lap race where you have to try to get on the podium before the 3 laps are over, basically the mariokart races to be able to understand it easily.

In this type of race for 5 minutes you are allowed to play as many times as you want on a predetermined track where you have to try to get the best time than the others, the one who completes the race in the shortest possible time will win.

Now that we know what it is and what modes it can have, we have to think about how to adapt it so that it fits better on the server. And I think the best thing would be to make it something similar to WingRush, a mode that we already had on the server but that unfortunately was not very popular as a result it was removed. This mode, to explain it quickly, was a Mario Kart but with elytras.


To be honest I was never a big fan of WingRush and I didn't really enjoy it either, maybe it's because I didn't really like racing with elytras. But after having tried ice boat racing and enjoying it, I think the combination of these 2 ideas can work on the server.I could go into what items there should be or which ones I would like to see, but this thread is simply to make it clear and to see what opinions the community has on this idea without going into too much depth.

That said, this does not mean that this “MarioKart with boats” is the only thing that could be implemented, there could perhaps be the 2 modes mentioned above or the typical mode where you go around the track and every so often the last position explodes until the last one is left on the track.I would also think of a practice mode where you can choose between all the available tracks and make it something similar to parkour where we have the bronze, silver and gold medals according to the completion time, it would also be great to have a top 10 of the best times on each track. I think this would be one of the essential parts of this mode, although a more vanilla style could be maintained, I think the mode would have much more potential with a custom texture pack where we could have the items/cars/tracks/horns etc with a unique touch that could greatly improve what the races are.

Pros:
-A mode with a lot of potential
-A mode that has already a community totally dedicated
-A mode that can be very attractive for content creators and could therefore attract more players.
-Very enjoyable mode both with friends and alone
-A mode that if adapted well could be played by both casual players or competitive players without excluding either of the 2 groups of players.


Cons:
-It is a mode that requires some practice, which could frustrate players at first.
-It is a mode where a lot of resources will be required to be invested both in the artistic part (track design, cars, etc.) as well as in the programming part (items, etc.). An investment without guaranteed benefit that CubeCraft may not be able to afford right now.
-Boats have several “bugs” that can complicate some things
*I wouldn't count this as a con, but it's good that people know that the ice boat racing experience is greatly improved with some mods. And I don't know how complicated it would be to implement any of these or if it's even possible, but anyway, since I've tried both, both vanilla and with mods, I can say that it's very enjoyable and it doesn't make a big difference.

Technically they don’t need custom boats just a timing system, ice, walls, and courses (maybe it could be beta games and it would have easy medium or difficult courses)

It's not a bad idea, but java only things are not really good for the network as a whole, as the return value is considerably lower, you'd always want to develop new gamemodes for both minecraft versions where possible. And sadly i dont see this game being very good for anything but PC, which makes this not real suitable for bedrock.

Custom boats are merely something aesthetic as mentioned in the thread I think it would be a great detail and would help to have a better immersion in the mode. But something vanilla could work perfectly too.

There are many options to choose from what could be implemented with ice boat racing, what you mention could perfectly be one of those options.

I really, really like this suggestion. The clarity, structure, organization is top-notch. I'd love to see ice boat racing on the CubeCraft server.
In the end I think that many threads, even if they have interesting ideas, are ignored or are given almost no attention because they are either poorly structured or do not convey the idea well. That is why I think that if you really want an idea you have to be implemented on the server you have to take care of the details in the threads, and normally people tend to appreciate when everything is well organized and well explained regardless of whether they like the idea or not.

I already had that in mind, I think that the priority should always be Bedrock since currently and for years it is the pillar that keeps Cubecraft alive, but this thread was simply made from the Java point of view since I don't like Bedrock and I don't play it, since i dont have enough experience in Bedrock it would be ignorant of me to write a thread as if I knew something about bedrock, that's why I focused everything from a single point of view with the hope that it works for both versions of Minecraft, thats why at the end of the thread I say that I put it for both networks just in case, since if there aren't any types of complications it would be perfect.
. And sadly i dont see this game being very good for anything but PC, which makes this not real suitable for bedrock.
Could you explain this in a little more detail? Since as I mentioned before I have not played practically anything on Bedrock. What I can assume is that it is very complicated perhaps to be able to control a boat with a touch screen which would make the gameplay difficult for mobile or tablet players and the same problem could be faced with gamepads for console players.

If that were the problem, I wouldn't know how complex it would be to do it, but as in other multiplatform games, a lot of help is always given to mobile players so that they can have, within their possibilities, the same gaming experience as those who play on PC. In this case, it could be that they are helped to skid practically effortlessly.

(I repeat that I have not played on Bedrock and maybe everything I have said does not make any sense)

For new games for the network, you want easy to pick up games with a high replayability value and options to monetize them. Best example is pillars of fortune, which is very easy to pick up and people just want to play it over and over again. I don't think ice boat racing is easy to pick up. Most of our players are casual players and they just dont have the skills necessary to navigate a boat this precisely, especially on a low end device. A high ping would make the situation potentially even worse. In terms of replayability, i personally dont think this is something people would want to grind, it can be fun for a few games surely, but i dont think many people would want to play it thousands of times.

Well said, un-organization and a not clear tone can really affect the way the suggestion reaches the mind of the reader which in turn affects the outcome of the suggestion (whether it’s a game suggestion of feature suggestion). You’re welcome.

All the points mentioned above are valid, except the last one imo. The thing with leaderboards is that people will grind anything to maintain their status, however repetitive it may be. Take parkour for instance, both normal and competitive modes are highly repetitive, yet players spend hours daily grinding to keep their stats and rankings up. I believe this idea could be modified further by incorporating it as a sub mode under parkour. Since it involves obstacles and racing, it aligns well with what parkour is about.

Although I understand what you're saying and I think it's logical, these limits that are put on new games only serve to rule out any game proposal that has a minimum of complexity. POF has been a great success of course, from my point of view it was a stroke of luck that almost never happens since it's a game that was a minimal investment and that has benefited the server a lot, and I'm sure that not even the administration itself expected such success. But to be honest, if you have to expect a game to meet all those requirements, what it does is there is no possibility of having new games, taking into account that it has to be made simple enough so that a 5 year old can learn it, also so that people with low-resource devices can play it, also that it is not affected by people with high ping levels (which is and will always be a problem). Seeing all these requirements, I understand it from the point of view of a company that tries to attract as many players as possible and keep them for as long as possible and it also makes me understand why we have had so few new games in recent years apart from pof and a copy of bw, there is also MAGIC and MAYHEM which was a mode that the community liked and which of course, like any MMORPG, is not easy to get the hang of and it did not meet any of the aforementioned requirements either, but I suppose it was post-covid era where there were more players and more risks could be taken. On the other hand, I totally disagree with what you say regarding replayability, but well, I guess we have different opinions. I recommend trying it, maybe you'll change your mind.

it was not really a stroke of luck, the basic concept of pillars is not new to minecraft, it just hasn't really been done by any big minecraft server yet tmk. But i agree that the success was probably underestimated.

That is not true, there is still the possibility of new games, just not for any new game, its important that anyone can easily pick it up and its playable on any device, otherwise you just lock players out of a game you are offering, which is never a good thing to do. High ping always existing is true, though my intention was to highlight the severity of ping issues in iceboat racing compared to other games. In PVP games high ping can be annoying, but you can still play the game, some people even say it's an advantage. When it comes to iceboat racing, if it messes with your steering, you will just not have a realistic chance to win the race as you will be constantly going off course.

My point was that i dont think that the majority of people would enjoy playing the game over and over again, compared to other games we are offering. I know that there will always be people that grind a specific game, even if we offered a game where you just run in a circle, there would still be people grinding the game to get on lb.

I see where you're coming from. It's fair to say that not every game will appeal to the majority of players, and that's okay. While some may play Ice Boat Racing purely for the leaderboard grind, others might enjoy it for what it really is and there's no denying that as long as it hasn't been tested, It may even attract bedrock players that dont usually play CubeCraft. By integrating it as a sub mode under parkour, CubeCraft can test its potential without significant risk or investment.

it was not really a stroke of luck, the basic concept of pillars is not new to minecraft, it just hasn't really been done by any big minecraft server yet tmk. But i agree that the success was probably underestimated.
The stroke of luck is having had so much success with a relatively simple game mode to make, at no time am I saying that cubecraft invented the concept of pof since months before I already saw this game on tiktok but only with 3 players ingame
That is not true, there is still the possibility of new games, just not for any new game, its important that anyone can easily pick it up and its playable on any device, otherwise you just lock players out of a game you are offering, which is never a good thing to do.
I had already said that I understand it from the company's point of view, there was no need to pursue the subject further...
High ping always existing is true, though my intention was to highlight the severity of ping issues in iceboat racing compared to other games. In PVP games high ping can be annoying, but you can still play the game, some people even say it's an advantage. When it comes to iceboat racing, if it messes with your steering, you will just not have a realistic chance to win the race as you will be constantly going off course.
In the video I posted in the cons section, the point of players with high ping is already discussed, and as such they have an advantage since other players do not see them fluidly and you can collide with them more easily.
You are taking the point of the players with high ping as if there was only one game mode that has been proposed which would be "MarioKart" but I also proposed the possibility that it would be similar to parkour with the theme of medals and more things etc.The idea of @llvqs I find it quite acceptable, There are many modes that can be implemented, some more complex, others simpler, but there are not only classic races🤷‍♂️.

I think that if this game were implemented it should fall under another another existing game; I agree with @llvqs here

This game concept reminds me of Hyper Racers on Galaxite, a smaller featured Bedrock server. While that game does not use boats like how this concept does, its gameplay is similar enough to ice boat racing that I feel like I should bring it up here

This is not to say that Hyper Racers should prevent ice boat racing from being added; I support this idea. I just think it’s good to see how a similar idea is executed on another server so we can have an idea of the standards to set for this game (if it’s intended to be a main game). This is also not to encourage making Ice Boat Racing similar to Hyper Racers at all; CubeCraft’s ice boat game would be made for CubeCraft and unique to CubeCraft

Hyper Racers is styled like Mario Kart where you complete a few laps (i.e. a Normal Race) and each player rides their own go-kart. At certain places in the track, there are powerup cubes that offer you a temporary advantage of some kind, like placing an oil spill to slow other players down or throwing a snowball at a kart in front of you. In addition, there are speed pads in parts of the tracks as well as ones that slow you down, and some speed pads switch between the two types every few seconds

Seeing the standards set by that game, I’m not sure if Ice Boat Racing could work as a standalone game with its own lobby. This is why I agree that it should be in the Parkour Lobby

Of course, Galaxite and CubeCraft are very different servers. The styles are quite different as well as their respective playercounts.
I think the concept of ice boat racing could fit well here. Plus it offers an experience for those who were already into ice boat racing

However, for Ice Boat Racing to become a main game with its own lobby, I think it would need a few small additions of some kind. Variety and unpredictability in gameplay can overall improve the replayability

Different modes are one way accomplish that; they could be modes that any player could vote for or they could be rank-exclusive; I’m not sure (Modes of both kinds existing could open up more opportunities)

At the moment I don’t have many other ideas of elements to add, though I’m thinking of areas with slime blocks in the track for the boats to bounce off of; this could work even if the game is placed in the Parkour lobby

I've been watching some Hyper Racers videos and it's pretty close to the idea I had in my head, but I don't like that cubecraft "copies" modes. I agree with everything else you mentioned in this paragraph.

As I said, I think it's a good idea, and it could make parkour players go up, both in Java and Bedrock, since parkour is not a mode that is a great success in either of the 2 versions as far as I know.

What I like about Ice Boat Racing, as I said in the Pros section, is that it is a mode with a lot of potential, with which I think it would be very easy to add different modes so that people do not get bored, and add many other things that could improve Ice Boat Racing . Apart from that, I think it would not be very difficult to monetize the mode as in the example you gave, it could also be that the rank could have exclusive boats and later boat packs could be added etc.


In the end this thread was to see if the community liked the idea of Ice Boat Racing and to see the possibilities of the mode and to know what opinions there are about it. And after reading all the comments and seeing that people like the idea I think it is a mode that in some way or another I think it could fit in cubecraft.
