After reading this post, do you agree that multipliers are overpowered?

Multipliers are far too overpowered, and need to be updated or removed.

Backstory

CubeCraft recently posted an update regarding point multipliers. This brought out many new changes to these multipliers but most noticeably the thanking feature. When a player clicks your multiplier activation announcement or types /thank YourUsername they will receive 100 experience, and the player who activated the multiplier will receive 20 points and 100 experience. You can read the whole thread about the changes here.

The Problem

TL;DR: I play games 10-15 times. I get around enough points to buy overpowered leggings and helmet on PvP FFA once. This is good, because I'm being rewarded for playing games on the server.
However: I buy three multipliers. Immediately, I get thanked over 200 times. Across the whole hour, I gain enough points to buy the leggings and helmet on PvP 30 times over, by doing absolutely nothing on the server. Yeah, players are getting double points, that's cool! But a player receiving double points would have to do a lot more work just to get the same points I get for 1 /thank.

Here's where the problem starts. I have played over 100 hours of gameplay and I get to level 28, yet 3 multipliers I more than double my level in less than half an hour by doing absolutely nothing. This is far too much EXP to be fair on those who play often and don't buy perks like these. However, experience is not useful whatsoever; it is apparently there as a "bragging right", although it doesn't reward you in any way for playing on the server. The real issue comes with the points reward for thanking a player.

You gain far too many points per /thank from multipliers. I've gained more points in half an hour than I have ever gained across my entire play time on the server. I would have to play 10-15+ tower defence games just to get enough points for an OP helmet and OP boots on PvP FFA, yet in half an hour I have now gained enough points to buy the kit 30 times over. That doesn't seem fair at all either.

You shouldn't have the ability to buy a perk that gives you a massive advantage in some game modes by doing absolutely nothing on the server. Many players play competitively just to gain enough points to buy a new kit, or buy equipment on PvP and so on, yet a simple £5 purchase will get you enough points within an hour to buy kits and equipment multiple times over for absolutely no effort whatsoever.

The multiplier system is unfair for these reasons, because it makes getting points far too easy for doing absolutely nothing but spending £5.

Further issues

Due to the high rewards for buying a multiplier, some players are using this to their advantage by purchasing many multipliers and activating them one after another so quickly, you are unable to use your own. Some players have gained over 50 levels (who are over level 100) in less than an hour by doing absolutely nothing.

Verdict

Why is this a problem? This is not a “because we want you to remove it” issue, it is one that clearly gives players an advantage just by purchasing a multiplier on the server. It is ultimately not fair for those players who play on the server for long periods and are dedicated to playing all the game modes, where players buy one simple perk that gives them more points in an hour than the dedicated players have received over months of gameplay.

What needs to be done

I have created a few ideas on what can be done to solve this, although I would appreciate to hear your feedback too.
  • Remove/reduce the 20 points from receiving a “/thank”. This will remove the advantage to paying players.
  • Remove/reduce gaining experience from “/thank” and introduce rewards for experience. This will mean players who dedicate a lot of time on the server will be rewarded for doing so.
  • UPDATE 15-05-2019: Remove the ability to use multiple multipliers for different gamemodes at once. This will prevent players using multipliers across all gamemodes at once, allowing other players to use their multipliers.
  • UPDATE 26-05-2019: Add rewards for experience to make it an actual useful system; it doesn't work as just a bragging right!
  • UPDATE 30-05-2019: Add a cooldown to multipliers so you can only use one per X (say 6) hours.

From @Cuteee;

“So yea, hi staff. I was thinking, are you guys planning on doing anything to fix the thank update and the problem with levels? The harm is already done, since some people got to level up about 60 levels by paying, but at least you could accept your mistake and patch it by maybe lowering the experience gotten by getting thanked? It's already kinda tiring seeing the picture I attached. (I just gave someone 400 xp, and so did anyone who thanked him. )”

Yes, but I remind you that many people buy the multipliers, you think they are going to spend 5 dollars for nothing, besides it is the desicion of each one, if he wants to buy them or not

its a great way to farm points
Pay2Win, affects game play for games and as well as FFA. You just described how game breaking it is.

I mean, people buy the point multipliers "for nothing." it's not nothing. the xp multipliers was a scummy, scummy move though.

Oh yeah time to add a Pay2Win kit that only a NEW! rank has which costs 300$, it has a sharpness 700 sword and you're guaranteed to get it EVERY ROUND!... Yeah I'm sure you wouldn't complain, because the rank is the person's choice to buy it. -.-

i don't think its to OP its a great way to farm points if u want to buy a kit that cost a lot of coins
However there comes a time where you have to ask if paying £5 and sitting for an hour doing nothing is better than filling up game servers and playing the gamemodes to earn the same amount of points across multiple hours (or days in my case since I don't play high-earning gamemodes)

Okey first of all, yes it’s not fair for the players that can’t afford these multipliers. But changing now would be a scam for the players that bought their multipliers when it had the big thanking bonus. Because they probably bought it for that reason. So you can’t just change the amount. It would be the same thing if they would change your donator rank there perms, but not in a good way. But by removing somethings.

So we can all keep making threads about this, but that doesn’t change the fact that they chose to make the multiplier better (much better). It is the decision of the staff team. And sorry to say but they won’t change it.

wrong. plus they can still refund them.
"it's not fair for who bought them" is a stupid rhetoric. iron used to be 20$, it's now 10$. isn't that a scam for everyone that bought Iron?

so what's the point of playing on a server where Staff never listen to their community? Also how tf is it much better? Just because YOU gain points and xp doesn't mean it's much better, you're just greedy af.

Well I think they do listen, but there is a lot of work in the background. Like now with nostalgic week, there were many threads about people that wanted to see old maps to come back. So staff did listen. You can’t know what they are discussing in their meetings. And well what is the point of a multiplier? To give more points and they did improve it. So yes you get much more points.

Okey so if your friend bought a PlayStation 1 month before you for like 380 euros and now Sony decided to lower the price to 330 euros. Is that also unfair for the people that bought it when it was 380? That’s the same with the iron rank. But cut changing what you get is much different than the price.

I don't think you understood my post at all then.
Multipliers are there to multiply points across a gamemode, they already had a purpose before this update. From my post, I have clearly explained why gaining points for being thanked is extremely unbalanced and unfair.
Also, your argument with the whole "it would scam players" is completely wrong. Players who brought and used multipliers before this update should then deserve compensation for all the "thank yous" they missed out on? That's not how it works. A company that sells a product and then reduces its cost in the future doesn't owe the customer anything. Therefore it's not a scam.
