I understand your frustration, it's not always that simple as it sounds "destroying your opponents tower". I've noticed a game can be dragged on for a while if both teams are equally defending their towers as well as attacking their opponents tower. The best way to prevent this is of course, to use the best strategy you have. Thats why the more experienced players have a decent advantage in this game. Practice and you might see for yourself. Not really a hardcore tower defence player myself but I can still understand how frustrating it can be if a game never seems end...
When you are in the Tower Defense lobby you will see an enchantedblock (I believe it's a bookcase, but can't check atm). Click on it. It will give you a tutorial and some insight about how the game is meant to be played.
