Since I started I've got some great constructive criticism that has really helped improve this suggestion. As a result, I'm going to summarise this suggestion again in a better structured way:
Joining:
Joining would happen like normal. Each game would ask for 50 players (or 100 if it got popular) but it would start at 20 (or 40 or even 60 if it got popular). You would be told the map when you join. The map would be themed on a certain period of time and place it could be fictional or fantasy too. The map would be large enough and have enough terrain and hills that it would have a large build-up and there would be space for flanking and tactics. When you joined the map could offer you a non-compulsory texture pack to improve the experience.
Pre-Game:
When you joined you would be asked what language you spoke. This is so when the game started it could try to group together people who speak the same language so communication was better. While waiting for the game to start you would be teleported into the map with everyone else and you could explore the map. PvP would be turned on so you could also get some practice. Alternatively, there could be a standard lobby with practice arenas. When the game was ready to start you would be teleported to your corner and given 10 seconds or so to choose a kit. The kit would be based on the map. It's possible that different teams could have different or weaker kit choices but more people to make it more interesting. For example, if it was a roman themed map the kits could be:
Projectile:
Spearman (full leather armour, a stack of single-use but heavily damaging weapons to throw like snowballs or something, a wood sword for a dagger)
Bowman (full leather armour, a bow, a stack of arrows, a wood sword for a dagger)
Catapult Operator (full leather armour, huge slowness effect, stack of eggs which damage terrain)
Melee:
Swordsman (full leather armour, iron sword)
Trident - Based on a Roman Gladiator (full leather armour, iron sword with kill aura style effect, slowness potions)
Horsemen (full leather armour, on horseback, iron sword with kill aura style effect, a wood sword for a dagger)
The Game:
Everyone would drop down and the game would begin. In some maps one team might start out as a "defender" of some sort and in others they might start out in opposite corners. There might be some buildings in the middle that small parties could be sent off to raid to gain supplies but would have some threats like angry villagers. The team would have a "general" or a "leader" or another name depending on the map's theme and depending on team size some "commanders" or "sergeants". They would be given chat in bold red so that the team could see tell the orders apart from the general chit-chat of the team. The "leader" or "commanders" could be the people with the most experience points or something like that. There would be two or three ways to win. The first being to kill the other team, the second could be in some maps to capture a certain place, maybe a place that one team started off as the "defenders" of. Finally, the third would be for the opposing team to "surrender". At any point you could click a button or type a command saying the team should "surrender" and when 50% of the team say they should "surrender" the game would end and the surrendering team would lose but those who hadn't died yet would still be alive. Losing but finishing the game alive would have some sort of points bonus. This is an example: as the game goes on you'll slowly get points for different things such as a kill etc. but if you stay around until the end of the game you could get extra bonuses as follows:
Lose dead: x0 (no extra points)
Lose alive: x1 (double points)
Win dead: x1 (double points)
Win alive: x2 (triple points)
And that's the latest round up, what do you think
