I'm getting flashbacks from that amount of potato's, when i had the quest where i had to get 20 or 50 poisonous potato's (i don't remember the exact number) it took me ages to get them all since i was really unlucky. When i finally had them all i had chests full of potato's.

That poison potato quest was brutal. Fortune tools helped but only a little bit since it was so early in the game and I hadn't upgraded my tools that much.

I hadn't even discovered you could use fortune tools on crops without them breaking. It took me even longer. xD
However it was OK since I had 2 farms of 80 blocks (9x9 with water in center to hydrate), and therefore didn't take too long.

Yup. Also silk touch on melons to get whole melons instead of a handful of individual slices.
