Currently, players cannot be punished for having an inappropriate cape. Having an inappropriate skin is, however, punishable.
While I understand that skins are a vanilla feature and custom capes are not, mods that support these capes are being used by so many players across the server, that it could be considered to be a vanilla feature as well.

Nowadays, who does not use Optifine? Who doesn't use 5zig or LabyMod? I'm certain there'll be a handful of players, but the number of players that do use these mods, and therefore are capable of being witness to inappropriate capes, is too big.

I know there are other relatively popular servers that have such a rule and I definitely think CubeCraft should have it too. Especially considering CubeCraft is a Mojang partner.

Custom and inappropriate capes from Optifine are an issue as well, however, the liberty LabyMod users have if it comes to their capes is huge (not sure if this also applies for 5zig). Now, after doing some digging, I have discovered that LabyMod is also disallowing inappropriate capes. This to me seems like another good reason to disallow them on this server. If the mod itself does, then why shouldn't we?

I do agree, I've seen countless inapropriate capes and I'm only using OptiFine, I never understood why capes weren't punishable.

However, there is one problem: you can give OptiFine capes to other people. This would cause a person not knowing why they have a cape and how to change the cape. A great example of this is the player "jeb_".
This player received an OptiFine cape but never changed the cape.
I know that it won't be very common, but it's still possible to receive a punishable cape and get banned just because someone else gave it to you.

Whoever did that is a legend. Anyway, I see where you're coming from and I actually did know capes could be gifted, but I wasn't aware of the abuse that this brought. In my opinion, this is something on Optifine's side. It's not because their system has a flaw that we shouldn't punish these players.

And then still, these players can either not use optifine or just disable their cape in the skin customisation menu :D

Little error in your voting option. Don’t see a reason not to ban these players. It’s inappropriate, just like skins and it should be the same punishment.

That’s a good solution, but still, we don’t know if a player has an inappropriate cape or not because they were given the cape.

But yeah they do have the time to realise that their cape is inappropriate and disable/change it before the report gets handled.

However a staff member can’t see if a cape has been disabled or changed on namemc (only for optifine)

Well no, but again, they can indeed just disable their cape. Whether they bought the cape themselves or were gifted one, they can still disable it

Good one, don't know how that can be checked. But I do not think we should rely on namemc. What if it shut down tomorrow, would we also allow inappropriate skins?

There are, fortunately, countless other websites that can be used to view people's skins, such as https://minecraft.tools/en/skin.php and https://minecraftskinstealer.com/. The first one I have listed also comes with the feature to show the current Optifine cape. It is indeed not necessary and clever to fully rely on independent websites, because, if not affiliated with CubeCraft, it might be unreliable or updated with high latency. As for now, I don't think there is a way to bypass this issue, so we will have to deal with it for now.

As for your suggestion itself, I truly agree with the fact that Inappropriate capes deserve the same punishment as for inappropriate names and skins. I have encountered and witnessed countless misuses of the capes and I'd love to see action being taken towards it!

Thanks for suggesting this, I am of the opinion that this should definitely be taken into consideration. ^-^

I agree but unfortunately as @SanSpookie pointed out, people can gift capes to each other in Optifine. And that, to me is enough reason to not ban inappropriate Optifine capes. Problem is, is there a way to tell if a cape is an Optifine cape? If not then honestly this rule cannot be implemented. There cannot be innocent people being banned because of a cape they didn’t even buy, and there’s no way to prove they didn’t buy it.
Forge capes also look like Optifine capes, not sure about other clients. To be honest, the prohibition comes along so many complications I would rather not see this become an official rule.

In those cases the players can choose to either not use Optifine at all, or just disable the cape in their skin customisation settings.

^^^ Also, Optifine is not a vanilla feature and mojang do not condone or care enough about what its developers or its users do with the mod, so why should we?
I've also put this in the thread, it's a mod that is being used by an extraordinary amount of players. It could just be considered to be a vanilla feature too

What if the person doesn’t use Optifine and is just being trolled? There’s no way for him to prove they’re being trolled.

If they don't use Optifine their cape won't be visible, as far as I'm aware
I would believe it is visible. It’s not something dependent to your client. Other people’s clients consult the Optifine servers to determine if someone has a cape or not.

Edit: Just checked with an alt, a cape is still visible even if you're not using Optifine.

It can't be considered as a vanilla feature if it's not downloaded defaultly when you download the game. New players won't have Optifine instantly when they get the game. Anything you download apart too add to the game is not a vanilla thing.
The amount of users you think the mod has doesn't make it a vanilla game feature, the only way the mod can be in the game as vanilla is if mojang want it so.
