Make the messages, which are posted on a thread where necroposting doesn’t apply, not have an influence on your message count.

This, by the means of reducing spam. For example, you’re still able to let the staff team know what’s your opinion on the most recent update. However, it will remove nonsense discussions, people who just say single words, the need to write something just because of the message count etc.
You don’t have the write a whole essay.

Although you could at least mention what you actually like and the things you don’t, if that applies.

It will also create a more complex overview of how a new update is actually being looked upon, if you filter out all the nonsense.

I don't think it's a message counting problem, it's a user problem.

Sometimes users leave 1-2 worded responses, like "good suggestion", or "+1" or whatever they say, it adds nothing to the conversation, and you could just leave a like on the post you agree with. For some reason this is more prevalent on server updates, but removing those messages from the message counts won't really help. You can still post the messages either way, so it won't totally fix the problem. Also the threads where messages would still count could still be filled with random useless messages. Of course they could not do that in old threads but the recent ones are still vulnerable to that.
Disabling message counts on server updates also discourages people who want to actually say something meaningful from saying what they think, since it won't really count. Also i assume likes are still enabled on those messages, which you make people use those threads to farm likes without increasing message counts for the achievements. If likes are disabled, people will be even more discouraged from posting in those threads.

It's a bit annoying when some guy comes in and spams 10 threads from 2016 that no one cares about anymore, but that will just make them spam 10 threads from 2019 people still care about. It will probably reduce the problem a bit, but won't fix it entirely.
