Hey, everyone. Quick poll to test interest in an RPG server. (No, we're not currently developing an RPG server.)
What is an RPG server?
RPG stands for role-playing game. This means you're a character in a large, complicated world and you act as that character. Common RPG worlds are often themed as fantasy, medieval, steampunk, or outer space. RPG's include Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Final Fantasy, World of Warcraft, and countless others.
Why an RPG server?
As a server that seems to focus mainly on minigames like Skywars, Spleef, Lucky Islands, and Survival Games, an RPG server may seem somewhat unexpected from us; an overarching, continuous game world with long-term objectives is definitely a departure from our usual selection of games. So why do it? As a server, we try to diversify ourselves in order to include games and servers that interest all of our players. While an RPG server is certainly nothing new, it's definitely something we're pretty sure our players would enjoy.
What would you do on an RPG server?
RPG servers feature storytelling and plot-driven narration as a major gameplay element. This means that the player would be the main character of a story told through Minecraft. The average RPG involves completing quests for NPC's, raiding dungeons with friends, fighting monsters for glory, loot, and exp, and ultimately completing the story the world has set up for you. Here's a few scenarios for RPG servers:
Western Tale-
There's just one rule in the Wild West; when Ivan Ironsides and his gang of outlaws ride into town, there are no rules. For years, the Ironhorse gang has ruled the frontier with a grip of steel and fear, taking what they want and leaving nothing behind. No sheriff or lawman with a thought of self-preservation dares go after the gang, and no sheriff or lawman has ever crossed Ironsides and walked away. Whispers spread like tumbleweeds in the wind of a lone desperado hellbent on bringing the Ironhorse gang in, and Ivan doesn't take too kindly to the notion of any man or woman brave enough to stand against him. Will this lone hero succeed, or will they wind up as buzzard food?
Beyond Sol-
In the year 5693-x, the crew of the Starship Dapperness suddenly disappears, along with a shipment of Zurdanium crystals, one of the most impossibly powerful substances in the entire universe. When Cosmocorp, the most influential and profitable corporations in the entire galaxy, offers a bounty of one trillion galactic credits for the return of the Zurdanium crystals, you assemble a crew and take to the stars in order to track down the mysteriously vanished crystals and crew of the SS Dapperness. Pilot a starship with friends, explore the galaxy, and discover the answers to the secrets of the universe.
Lunacy-
The world of Esmuth is a peaceful one. Farmers tend to their sheep while children play cheerfully in the endless green meadows of the fair land. Life is good here... except on the night of the full moon. When the insidious light of the full moon shines down on the land of Esmuth, terrible creatures arise. Blending in with the simple townsfolk of the world, when the moon is full, certain players will transform into bloodthirsty werewolves, terrorizing the land and livestock. It's up to a few brave adventurers to fend off these beasts. Humans can choose to take up arms and defend the innocent, commit themselves to research and the development of a cure for lycanthropy, or turn to dark magic to become a werewolf themselves.
In Conclusion:
Would you like to play on a server similar the ones described above? If not, why? Do you have any ideas for an RPG server you'd like to see? Cast your votes now!
