Artwork Skin Stealing?

You know those sites where you type a Nickname and you get the user's skin, don't you? Well to be honest, I don't quite like how they work. If someone makes a skin is to be unique, different. Then the usual copycat kiddo comes in and steals your work. I am not against publishing skins, but against these third party sites. I'd like to know your opinion on the incredible ease to steal a skin and if your personal skin has ever been stolen before. This is without even uploading them to a skin sharing website, of course.

You can take it as a compliment that someone really likes your work.
I have edited skins to make it unique and come up with them from scratch. I don't think there is any way to stop them from being stolen but perhaps put your initials on the skin as a trademark or something.

Well, I appreciate your contribution to the thread so don't worry. I mean, yeah if someone steals your skin it's probably because they like it, but it's not a reason not to be upset about it. Like if your little brother likes your drawing and steals them. Or copies them, I dunno to be honest. Point is, someone always steal someone's work because they like it, but still no one likes to be robbed. I hope you can understand my point.

So back in 2015 when Freebuidl still existed (idk how long ago) I started making my very own first skin. I didn't like it and it took me a few months to get a skin I was happy with. I made like 10 or 20 skins. Yet I only used 5 of them. The others were uploaded to a public skin site and hoped everyday when I got to that site someone would comment they loved the skin. Yet it only happened with 1 skin of mine.

I wouldn't like it if someone takes my current skin but I'd love seeing someone using a few of my old skins that are still available :)

Your skins have a really solid art style, I like it! I mean, me too would like people to use skins I publish online, but not my own. So I guess you kinda know how it feels.

Yep totally understandable, mixed feelings I guess.
Hopefully there is a way to prevent it, sorry if your skins are getting stolen.

I appreciate it :D
But I think only Mojang can prevent this by making their servers private or esclusive to the Minecraft client, what these third party sites do is connect to these servers, get a username's UUID and get the corresponding skin. It's that easy. I have nothing against skin viewers but sites with the ablity to steal skins are pretty unfair yet completely legal. My skins haven't been stolen yet but thinking that it's enough to type my Nickname into a text box and pressing "Grab Skin" to steal my work is kinda frustrating. What I still don't know is if Mojang knows about this and if they are gonna do something about it.

As for stealing player skins, there's no way to prevent that since the client has to be able to load the skin. I don't think it's a problem for people to be able to copy other people's skins, but others might disagree.

Technically the skin file (my skin file in this case or even your skin file or my brother's skin fi-I DONT KNOW) has to be downloaded to every client to be displayed so you can password them but it could be obtainable so for now, and for how skins work, it's technically impossible to prevent skin stealing. But not morally.
