Hey! As said above, this implementation of the longer void was suggested many times, so we decided to accept the suggestion and add it to SkyWars. There will always be that battle of "Make the void longer" and "Make the void shorter", it's like that with most suggestions and ideas. Sadly at this time we will not be changing the void height. It was added so people could enderpearl save themselves or other ways to avoid an instant death in the void, it's like EggWars as well now. I should note that if you use a golden apple when you fall and that you other player is killed before you, you deserve that win, you made sure that you'd survive in the void longer than me or in battle. Strategies are key remember.
When the update was first released, the void was moved to -200 on the Y axis, I looked into it and agreed that it was a bit too long, so I got it changed to -100 instead. I agree and understand that the void seems longer in terms of dying, but there's more advantage that comes to a longer void than a disadvantage. For example, you're able to void death using different methods now, such as Enderpearls or waterfalls if they exist. A small disadvantage is that it takes an extra 1-2 seconds to die if you fall off the map, and when you come to think about it, it's not really that major of a wait. I hope you understand and that I've made things a bit clearer now :D
