Use of the word "Gay"

I have made this forum post before previously and has sadly gotten declined...
Since the name changes I have changed my IGN to "KadeDelGay"
That is a beautiful name let me just say... it's a mix of lana del rey, me, and who I am...
Because of me changing my username to this, people can not type my IGN, or message me.
I find the word "gay" being banned very homophobic... Yes, people do use it as an insult... but that's not even an insult, so technically they're grammatically incorrect.

This is 2015. 37 states have legalized gay marriage. And you won't even allow users to type gay/lesbian on the server? Yes indeed- I do find that very homophobic.
There are many other sexualities that are listed in the LGBTQ community that are not banned...
for instance..
Bisexual
and
asexual.
those are just two of the 3 other sexualities that are ALSO not banned on this server.
Please change the banning for the word 'gay' and 'lesbian'
and maybe I will be more supportive of this server.

This server is literally my life... my life revolves around this server. It's the only server I play on... This is the only thing that upsets me about it.

I agree with this, yes it is homophobic, but most people use it in an abusive way. Instead of people saying "I'm gay" they would say "you're so gay", which is a homophobic insult that people use. I personally despise people who do this. Perhaps allowing gay, but have a strict policy of the context?

Yes, but "Lesbian" is also banned.
If you were closeted playing this game, and you tried typing that word
You might think of yourself as "wrong" or "inappropriate" and continue to stay in the closet, I honestly think it's time to unban that word.

There's no reason to not agree with this, but I don't think it's a homophic problem. The server has blocked it since this is one of the most common insults. Of course, there is nothing wrong with being gay. However, if you compare the amount of people that use it appropiately, to the amount of people who use it as an insult, 99.99% of users use it as an insult. Although it's really not an offensive term depending on what side you look at it, it can be taken the wrong way. So I don't think it should be unbanned, unless 99.99% of the users grow up.

I agree a lot with this, just maybe if Marco could add a filter so you can't say "You're gay/lesbian" etc. I dunno but I agree.

Here's the dictionary definition of the word "gay"
1) Gay: (adj) of a person, especially a man/homosexual
2) Gay: (adj) lighthearted and carefree

There is nothing negative in those two definitions. :)
So, in which- people saying that word... have technically not 'sworn'
It's not a derogatory term at all, people saying it in a "negative" way, is not technically "negative"...

I say to unban the word, but make sure it doesn't get spammed. I feel like it's worth a shot. It's been a while, and you can always reban it. :)

"Gay" is not meant to be an insult on its own, society and its faults made it so that we (especially guys, have to say) say it as something bad. I don't think being is a sin in anyway, I don't think its something someone can just overcome, but I do respect everyone who is and assume it. As for the point of view of a server Owner, he wants to eradicate any kind of issues or conflicts, especially human problem (harder to fix lol :D). So I do completely understand his pov. As for unbanning it. I, with do respect, say no, most of Marcos clients are kids, kids from 8 to 12 who being gay is probably and sadly frowned upon. They then use it as an insult without sometimes not even knowing what it means or how it could affect someone. I don't see how this could potentially change something to a nice Skywars game. And if its for informational purposes then, i'm guessing "homosexual" is allowed. Hope my point of view makes sense to most people here. If no other answer is suggested by Staff, I say to lock this, as this has been discussed before.

Kade, People will insult other people with it. Ex: "you're a gay homo", "you're so gay dude" That wiuld be insulting. Which is why they don't allow it. because people use it in a derogatory term.

Gay is still used as an 'insult' to many people and it is blocked to prevent this. It's really that simple. We're not being homophobic and it doesn't matter how many American states have legalized gay marriage. If people begin to stop using the word gay as an insult it will eventually be uncensored.This argument to un-censor it keeps coming up and people need to realize it's blocked for a simple reason. We're not being homophobic, we're just not allowing people to use it as an insult as people find it offensive.

I was thinking, for the users who do find it homophobic, instead of having a "Please do not say that!" Or whatever it is message, change it to "This word is blocked due to people using it in an offensive way." Because that explains why it's not allowed. Also, most people will still understand if you say "Homosexual" instead of using the word "gay"

What i don't understand though is why you don't use the term 'homosexual', since it's more accurate and isn't going to be used as in insult.

Okay so the reason why the word ''gay'' is blocked, is because it is massivly used as a swear. While i do support gay marriage, and think that it is wonderful that people don't get judged for their sexuality, but we are still dealing with kids here, who will not get the subject matter at all and will miss your point completly and just think you have an offensive name, sadly. I'm gonna lock this thread before we get a huge political debate about gay marriage.
