For anybody that plays Arcade, one of the most frustrating things for you is waiting for new players to join. This becomes an inflated problem once you get to the final three or so games, or the point at which coming first place becomes unattainable for newcomers. Often times you'll see players join the game, only to immediately leave because there are two rounds left, and the top player has sixteen or so trophies.
Two games left, top player has ten trophies. In Layer Spleef, it is no longer possible for a player to come first under any circumstance, unless the top player leaves the game. Ten points is not hard to get in eight games.
I have a potential solution to this issue, but I don't know whether Arcade fans will agree with it. The iconic physical leaderboard situated in the lobbies are amusing to climb on, and it feels awesome to see your avatar at the top of the middle pillar. This shouldn't change, however the trophy count above the avatars' heads should.
If the number of trophies possessed by each player is kept confidential, then newcomers might feel more inclined to participate, gambling a bit of their time for a chance to hit the top three spots.
Pros
-Increased overall activity in Arcade
-Shorter waiting times between rounds
-Increased competitiveness in late-game
Cons
-Much confusion from players who don't check the forums regularly for updates
-Not knowing yourself whether winning is possible at certain points of the game
Neat, I have a thousand trophies now. Thanks for the cubelet c:
