I’m going to be fully honest here and write genuine, detailed feedback because I feel it is necessary so that the future events can be further improved.
The Hunt
I’m a big fan of the new addition of the hunt quests, which also applies to this year’s Halloween event. I think it’s a unique, adorable idea and the different models and map parts add a bit of variety.
Though, I personally think the hunt is way too easy to complete. It took me around 15-20 minutes to do the entire thing, not even flying for the most part. I know that for many people, searching every nook and cranny in a lobby feels like a must, but ultimately that is not what it is. You aren’t forced to do the hunt; you are enticed to participate, to obtain the reward. It’s just a bit sad to see that it takes less than half an hour to finish the only lobby activity, when the event itself lasts for several weeks.
Despite the fact that some people may complain about it, I think the hunt should be more time consuming. Now, the thing is that anyone who has finished the hunt can simply make a video showing all locations, and people would still be done with the hunt very quickly. Now comes brainstorm time.
I recently did the challenges required for The Office cape in the Bedrock event. I think it is really smart how they locked each challenge behind a certain time frame. You can’t complete them all immediately within the first day. If you miss the first few days however, you can hop on and still do all the missing challenges later on.
This ensures that players (have to) wait with completing the different stages of the given challenges. Imagine that the different hunt stages (rockets, teddies, consoles in this case) were locked behind certain days. If there are three weeks to do the event, the teddy bears could be available in the first week, then in the second week the teddies and rockets, and finally in the third week all three. Players will be forced to return constantly if they try to do the event on the first few days and they are offered “fresh” content every week.
Snowman Survival
I don’t really play the game often enough to say anything about it, but when I do play it, it’s decent. Not my cup of tea, neither was Slime Survival, which is a me problem, not a Cube problem. A lot of people enjoy the game, so I’m content with the game.
General Experience
Outside of the lobby hunt and Snowman Survival, there isn’t much else to do that really gives you that holiday/winter-y feeling. It’s just lacking a certain
something.
I really think the winter event could benefit from - at least a low effort - advent calendar that contains exp rewards, points, loot points and cubelets (Java only) and very small cosmetics like a simple Bedrock prefix saying [Winter 2024], a cute hat for Java on top of the hunt hat, and perhaps a cage or some other minor cosmetic. Players would be able to always claim day 1, and can claim missed days up to 2 days after. To illustrate, if you missed day 12, 13 and 14, then return on day 15, you would be able to claim 13 and 14, but not day 12. This is just an idea though.
Additionally, I think it would be fun to populate the lobbies more during these events with NPCs that have a few random simple interaction lines that relate to their occupation/environment. Just a bit of interactivity. “Can you find them all?”
In my opinion, the event simply does not offer enough to do. Players aren’t enticed to explore the main lobby nor game lobbies, and once they have finished the short hunt, everyone just goes straight back to playing their favourite gamemode like every other day. The maps are gorgeous, don’t get me wrong, but it isn’t a unique concept. Not enough experiences are being offered.
I genuinely hope that this feedback will be listened to to some extent, as I truly believe the network could benefit from most of these ideas. Hope I didn’t miss anything.
