That's Correct i suppose... But in my defense nowadays everyone has Optifine.. And in its settings you can allow players to show their hp.. Though not as detailed as this and only if the players you hit are nearby i believe. Or this feature was in some previous Minecraft or Optifine versions.. I have used it only once and experience from my perspective was sort of buggy ^^
