Dear Helper Wannabes;

(As I’m writing this thread, I’m taking a ten minute break, I know I said I wouldnt use the forums till September and all but it’s just this one thread ~ kay?)
I’m guessing most of you want to join the helper team for some sweet recognition, under the guise of “helping the server.” Wanting recognition isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s only human, but I’m hoping I can persuade you not to. Being mod, isn’t all that great. Let me explain:

I’m someone who occasionally plays on cubecraft, I’m not all that bothered about hackers and cuss word language either. Hackers at least, are insta banned by sentinel these days. So basically I, personally, am not benefited by mod presence at all lol.

Second of all, becoming a moderator involves a lot of bougie ~ everyone who talks to you probably does so only to get close to you as a mod. Not to know you, but to secure a spot on the mod team. So there, already, you’ve lost a great deal of potential to have fun meeting new people.

Some of you as I’ve seen portray the mod role as akin to that of a hero ~ no not at all, it’s more like a babysitter. Directing angry children to the reports site, “no swear” on discord, and enforcing some other rules. Furthermore, you guys (wannabes) do a terrible job at building a community, with your helper-ambitions. It’s not that good, no?

I’m just saying ~ if I think back, I don’t remember mods all that well, I dont think many mods were actual, impactful community members aside from <I wont be naming anyone>. Think back: I remember Commie @Gainfullterror, @MagnificentSpam, @Shamel, @Dotsially and many others way better than the mods. These are people who helped shape Cubecraft’s personality as a whole ~ instead of wannabeism, cement your presence by being YOU.

Or you know, be a designer, they do fulfilling work, pretty outgoing as well.

Last but not least, if CCG will have 100 staff this year I guarantee nobody will grant you the recognition you desire. But the thing about members is, we can say whatever we want - we dont really have to be supportive of cubecraft all the time, essentially we have freedom of speech.

anyway thanks for coming to my ted talk goodnight.

Just want to say something about this. It’s fairly obvious when someone is applying for fame, or to make people like them. Even if you don’t believe it, some people really do enjoy helping people, and apply just to do good things for the community. Even if most people do apply for the fame or the power, don’t just assume everyone just wants fame, there are some good people out there who apply because helping people makes them feel good

It seems to me that you are quite right, I think there are people who want to be a helper just to have recognition, but there are also other people who do it for the love of the server.
I think that on the other hand, it could be solved by removing the rank "plus" from the helpers and moderators, in this way there would not be so many people who are only for that rank.
For the other problem, I have no solution, but I will try to find it somehow.

Amen.
Dostsially and many others were/are network banned :)
Yeah he is, but I think that with thousands of messages and likes, he's had quite some impact on the community.

Not sure how the plus rank would solve anything here? I mean, it's no staff-exclusive thingy, anyone with the sufficient amount of money could purchase it.

Yeah sure, there are people who actually like helping people out, I definitely believe that. But right now, it's such a shame that the forums community basically exists out of a lot of 'fake nice' wannabes. Might sound rude, but I'd rather see it as a piece of advice: Show your true self instead of copying others, don't answer a support thread with the same answer as the 10 forum users before you, etc.

I only partially agree with your original thread, but this I agree with. The Cubecraft community does need more good members, and not people that are nice just to seem like helper material.
Yes, I see this a lot, I'm just looking for some more genuine people who want to be involved in the community and not just to get staff.

This doesn't only apply to moderators, unfortunately. It's easy for me to see who is just my friend for the sake of "having a staff member as a friend" or because they truly care about me.
I will quickly cut ties with people who constantly ask about my "staff experiences" or "staff life". Though, I've made a bunch of friends after I became staff with whom I can sit in calls for hours on end without ever talking about Cube at all. Those are the ones I keep around 😛

Or you know, be a designer, they do fulfilling work, pretty outgoing as well.
Appreciate this, but I think all staff members are vital to keep Cube running smoothly. Mods don't only handle reports and ban hackers. Something that often goes unnoticed is when there's a ton of issues on Cube (for instance entire games being down), it's the mod team's responsibility to communicate this properly to the community. How I see it, mods are front-end of Cube, developers, designers and to some degree, admins, are back-end.

Yeah, just like both of the technos said, the members are the people who help the server run, because we are the server. The mods are simply the enforcers, repairmen, and friends to all of us. I haven't tried to apply because I don't think i'm ready for that kind of responsibility that it takes to be able to do the things they all do.

The fact, that many people nowadays are obsessed with becoming a staff member just for the recognition is undeniable.
Sure, the Helper application requirements got lowered in order to get more people in the team, and some of you may think, that some of the current helpers aren't experienced enough even as community members, as some haven't been active as much as others before getting promoted, but it's not really correct to judge them for that, since they might have some other qualities that we don't know about.
However, there are some people out there that are pure, and clearly don't seem to have some bad intentions towards others.
This small group of people is doing their best in order to be helpful, and I don't see anything wrong that personally, unless they become irritating by starting to reply to absolutely everything and watching the forums for open threads 24/7h a day.
Such people should be given the chance and be welcomed, as they try to be nice and interact with others, while being useful.
I still don't get the so called ,,helper wannabe" offence-etiquette, as it is just meant to annoy the ones, who are doing something nice about the community, like creating threads explaining some things people commonly have issues with and etc.
It's more important that they help, not that they might feel nice if they theoretically become a Helper and receive the attention they might've wanted, even a little bit.
Some people really spoke to Moderators and interact with them only because they want to be noticed, as well as their actions.
Still, there's nothing wrong with it, if they are looking for some constructive feedback on something.
And at the end of the day, Moderators are here to help.
Imagine CCGN without any moderation whatsoever, or imagine it with way less moderation team members, like it used to have back in 2019.
They clear the network from the so annoying cheaters we all hate, because they ruin our games, they remove irritating discord dm advertisers from the official dc server and etc, which makes our lives as players more enjoyable.
As long as the applicants are pure, and clear with their intentions, there's nothing wrong in them becoming a staff team member, even if they haven't stayed here for many years.

I think you need to look at it in another way

You're correct by saying that we need good community members, as it actually is something that creates a good atmosphere in the network
But in my opinion, mods/helpers and ANY staff member shouldn't/aren't in that position because of the recognition that they might get. They're there because of the actual love they have to the comunity and they want to offer their service to have a nicer/cleaner comunity

Nowadays, it is true that some people actually just do it because they want and after a few weeks they're gone. But there is a LOT of people that have a special affection towards CubeCraft (or any other server/network)!

Myself, having past experiences on big spanish networks, I know for a fact that regardless all the people that speak to you just for interest, there is a few others that feel you as a friend.

Being a staff team has endless oportunities. If you really feel love for Cube, you will have the time of your life as you will serve the network of your dreams, make friends inside and outside the staff team, to which you can talk about any problem that you might have and the list goes on!

So think of it. You might not be wrong on some things, but on others, there are a lot of ways to look at it!

This is very true. This is also the reason why I only add people who I know from outside of CubeCraft or when I've known and talked to them for a longer time. I find it quite annoying when people obviously come and talk to me because of my position. Just like Priley, I find it quite easy to see if someone is a real friend who actually wants to be my friend because of who I am as a person, or if someone just pretends to be a nice friend just because I'm a staff member. The worst thing I have experienced is that some people immediately started sending friend requests when I became a helper, while I have seen these same people plenty of times before without saying a word to each other. Just... don't be like that please 😅

Also, I personally hate attention and being in the spotlights as I'm quite shy and introverted. I usually prefer being in the background, though I really love my position as a moderator and I absolutely enjoy what I do here! And to everyone who is thinking about applying for staff: only YOU know why you want to apply. Please don't lie to yourself and others by saying you ''just like to help people'' while in reality you just want the attention, perks, etc. Honestly, if that's the case, I'm not sure if you would enjoy being a staff member. Do it because you love it, not because of what you get! After all, we are all equal human beings, no matter what your position or rank is.
Well that was my speech I guess, tyvm for reading 😛

anyway thanks for coming to my ted talk goodnight.
