Hey! So you may have noticed already that one of the games originally coming from The Chunk, has been merged into CubeCraft - blockwars. It’s been a success so far, we’ve been hearing a lot of positive feedback! Though questions are commonly asked in regards to the game therefore Sean (@Eystian) , Josh (@Josh_Sturgeon) and I decided to create a simple guide explaining the gameplay as well as some basic strategies applied to the variety of kits.
Objective:
Protect your flag in build phase, and return the enemy's flag by mining it - back to your flag to score points!
Build Phase:
At the beginning of the game, each player will receive a diamond pickaxe and 72 building blocks - coloured with their chosen team. Both teams will be given 2 minutes to build their defences to protect the flag / stop enemies from reaching the flag. Personal tips and strategies will be given later in the thread :)
Fight Phase:
The fight phase begins after the build phase time is up, this period normally lasts 7 minutes. The fight phase is where you will be given the chance to mine through the enemy’s team defences, mine their flag and run back with it to your flag area to capture (Yes, that could mean mining through your own defences!). You get two points per kill, 15 points per capture.
Overtime:
Overtime runs for 3 minutes. Overtime begins only if both teams have an equal amount of captures at the end of the fight phase. All defences are removed during this period.
Building Defences
Here’s a few tips, tricks and strategies for building your defences:
While building defences, you want to ensure that your flag is properly protected using as many layers of blocks as possible. However, it’s not as easy for it to be both secure and effective.
Do’s:
Every kit can be extremely powerful in the right hands and some may be better for certain situations. Below is an overview of what each kit entails and certain playstyles that work for it. That’s not to say these are the only playstyles, get creative and try new ideas!
Hopefully this guide will help out those who are still new to the game. If we missed out any vital details, or if there is any way for us to improve this guide - feel free to let us know! Have a fun figuring out the best strategies, and enjoy playing blockwars! :).

While building defences, you want to ensure that your flag is properly protected using as many layers of blocks as possible. However, it’s not as easy for it to be both secure and effective.
Do’s:
- Use all of the blocks before the time phase runs out.
- Double check your defence is ‘jumper proof’ by checking the height of the defences are at least 3 blocks high, so that players with the jumper kit can’t simply climb and jump on top to get the flag where you can’t hit them.
- Don’t go AFK in build phase, everyone has a limited amount of blocks and the lack of your 72 blocks on the defences may just lose your team the game.
- Don’t team grief your own team, also remember to place blocks back that you mine to get through to places.
- I suggest not creating a direct path from the flag. This could result in a greater advantage for your opposing team.
- Do not leave gaps in the defences at the beginning! Yes, this could potentially mean that you will avoid having to mine through the defences to capture the flag... though this could also mean that the enemy team has quicker access to it.
Every kit can be extremely powerful in the right hands and some may be better for certain situations. Below is an overview of what each kit entails and certain playstyles that work for it. That’s not to say these are the only playstyles, get creative and try new ideas!
Warrior:
Loadout:
Pros:
Cons:
Overview:
The warrior is your all purpose fighter class. If you want to be farming those kills, you may want to consider taking this kit. It has good sustain and can deal a good amount of damage, enough to subdue most opponents. Its relative lack of speed means it isn’t the best for carrying the flag to your base - perhaps it’d be better to defend the flag carrier instead?
Loadout:
- Stone Sword
- Bow
- Arrows (x3)
- Wooden Pickaxe
- Leather Chestplate, Leather Leggings and Leather Boots.
Pros:
- Inflicts heavy damage due to its Stone Sword.
- Can mine blocks.
- Has a bow and arrow so can attack from range.
Cons:
- Slow (especially when carrying the flag)
- Arrows are limited so make each shot count!
- No special buffs or abilities.

Runner:
Loadout:
Pros:
Cons:
Overview:
The runner is the go to class for the player that wants to play for the objective. Its speed makes it unparalleled in getting around the map, running to and from your and the enemy’s flag. It’s also useful in getting out of sticky situations. Its relatively low damage may put off some people from using it for getting kills, but can you use strafing to overcome this?
Loadout:
- Wooden Sword
- Wooden Pickaxe
- Leather Chestplate, Leather Leggings and Leather Boots
- Permanent Speed II
Pros:
- Fast
- Can strafe opponents to give you a PvP edge.
- Can mine blocks.
- Can get around the map a lot faster.
Cons:
- Doesn’t deal a lot of damage.
- No bow so has no ranged attack.

Archer:
Loadout:
Pros:
Cons:
Overview:
Archers are generally your backline supporters. Keep them safe and protected while they fire a barrage of arrows at your enemies. They can be an annoyance when you’re close to the edge of the void if they utilise the stick. Rushing them and getting close may be a good way to kill them, but beware, they may deal more damage than you think if they start hitting you with a pickaxe!
Loadout:
- Knockback I Stick
- Bow
- Arrows (x20)
- Wooden Pickaxe
- Chain Chestplate
Pros:
- Knockback stick is great for void maps.
- Can safely attack enemies at range.
- Can take a fair bit of damage due to its Chain Chestplate.
- Can mine blocks.
Cons:
- Very weak melee damage.
- Slow moving.
- No special buffs or abilities.
- Running out of arrows can be deadly.

Tank:
Loadout:
Cons:
Overview:
Although this class is not very known for dealing damage due to it’s only weapon being a wooden pickaxe, it can surely survive for much longer. This kit is especially effective against kits without weapons such as the jumper, or other kits that don’t deal as much damage.
Loadout:
- Wooden Pickaxe
- Iron Chestplate, Iron Leggings and Iron Boots
- Very tanky
- Can mine blocks.
Cons:
- Doesn’t deal a lot of damage.
- No bow so has no ranged attack.
- No special buffs or abilities.

Ninja:
Loadout:
Pros:
Cons:
Overview:
This kit is useful for dealing a lot of damage - though it comes for a price of no armor. With a few of successful critical hits, your enemies will be gone in no time! Although your nametag can still be seen with the vanish effect, you will surely be much harder to spot - effective in sticky situations.
Loadout:
- Iron sword
- Bow
- Arrows
- Cloak (45 second cooldown)
Pros:
- Inflicts a lot of damage.
- Ability to vanish
Cons:
- Very easy to kill due to the lack of armour.
- Can’t mine blocks.
- Slow moving.

Jumper:
Loadout:
Pros:
Cons:
Overview:
The jumper is the goto kit for someone wanting to get behind enemy lines, it’s what you do when you’re behind them that’s tricky! Get someone to mine a path to their flag and farm some points but getting a lot of captures, and if you get jumped by the enemy, choos``e an interesting path that they won’t be able to follow.
Loadout:
- Bow
- Arrows (x1)
- Leather Chestplate, Leather Leggings and Leather Boots
- Jump Boost III
Pros:
- Can jump around and over defences.
- Great for capturing the flag.
Cons:
- Little to no PvP ability.
- Can’t mine blocks.
- Very little amount of arrows, make it count!

Builder:
Loadout:
Pros:
Cons:
Overview:
This kit is perfect to defend the flag and make the team succeed! This kit comes in handy when the defences have been destroyed in the case of capturing the flag, or destroyed in the case of the enemy team attempting to steal it. This kit is also brilliant for building over the enemy defences, instead of having to mine your path through them.
Loadout:
- Wooden Sword
- Leather Chestplate
- Bow
- Arrows
- Wooden Pickaxe
- 5 blocks per respawn (fight and overtime phase only).
Pros:
- Can patch up defences after they have been destroyed in fight and overtime phase.
- Ability to build past enemy defences.
Cons:
- Very little armor given.
- Not much damage dealt.
- No special buffs or abilities.

Miner:
Loadout:
Pros:
Cons:
Overview:
This kit is brilliant for building defences, as well as mining through them! You can steal enemy defences, and of course, mine much faster to their flag. The only real downside is that this kit does not have a sword, leaving it with a stone pickaxe as their weapon
Loadout:
- Stone Pickaxe
- Leather armor
- Bow and three arrows
- Leather Chestplate, Leather Leggings, Leather Boots.
Pros:
- Blocks drop upon mining.
- Ability to rebuild defences and steal enemy blocks!
