The shield costs 1 set and a half of iron armor, for blocking most damage if you block none if you don't block, unlike armor. The shield has pretty bad durability considering its cost. The shield is not ussually bought until late game for these reasons. I suggest

Buffing the durability: Increase the durability of the shield to 350-450 to make the 30 diamonds more worth it.
Or
Adding armor to the shield: Additional half a bar(or full bar) of armor when the shield is in the offhand.
Or
Making the shield cheaper:5-20 diamonds since the shield right now costs way to much for the possibilty to block most of the damage, or if you don't block in time you take full damage.(and lose any combat momentum you had)
Or
Now this last one is a bit contraversial:
Add enough knockback resistance to the shield to make it so you take 1/4 less( or 1/2 less)knockback withouth needing to block. Lets say a hit was supposed to deal 2 blocks of knockback, with the shield it would be 1.5 blocks(or 1 block instead). A way to see if someone is hacking is if the person takes 0 knockback, or they don't have a shield and take no knocback/reduced knockback. The shield needs to be in the offhand. If too op reduce the shields hp a little bit.

I agree to this. The shield has extremely low durability. If you have seen Bajan's egg wars when he used to play 1.9, he won a fight because he kept bow spamming and ended up breaking the opponents shield.

Adding armour to the shield: Additional half a bar(or full bar) of armour when the shield is in the offhand.

I don't agree to giving it more armour bars because fighting in 1.9 is already a pain and takes very long, adding more armour will make it even worse.

Making the shield cheaper:5-20 diamonds since the shield right now costs way to much for the possibilty to block most of the damage, or if you don't block in time you take full damage.(and lose any combat momentum you had)

It does cost a lot and I think it should be cheaper. About 15 is I think the right amount in normal because 30 diamonds for something with such less durability that doesn't even prevent all of the knock back.

Now this last one is a bit contraversial:

Very controversial but very true. A shield is completely useless while crossing a bridge (other than for defending bow shots which is does perfectly). The main reason people buy shields is to siege campers who have punch bows and eggs, just sitting on their island, bow spamming. If you decide to cross (your opponent is a bad bow shooter or doesn't have a bow for some reason) they will just come and fist you once, and unless you don't have knock back control (Which you can try to learn from @HackersDontWin) or you are just a plain hacker with Anti-KB, you will die.

I do like some of these suggestions, some could be further modified as well.

In 1.11 thats no longer true shields were buffed so unless your attacked from behind or your spleefed your invincible as long as the shield is up

The 1.11 shields do sound better, but the problem is that 1.9 and 1.10 compatibility would need to be dropped.

Also, I like this. If it is late game, and they are farming you with arrows, your shield goes down so fast. +1

Um really, no need to criticize him about reading the rules or not. It's worse than someone simply not
editing a post.

The only thing I would want to modify is the cost, since it has such a little durability and high cost. If it was like 15 diamonds,
I would think that people would get it much more often.

I don't think that's a good idea considering how powerful the shield actually is. I'll explain it later on

I highly doubt that that is at all possible and viable

It doesn't cost much for what it can actually do.

I don't think that this is possible AND viable either.
This would also be confused for anti-kb and allot of false reports would rise.
Shields themself, have only 1 purpose in eggwars which is blocking arrows.
Going to a camper's island has always been extremely difficult in 1.8 as you had no portable arrow blockades.
I don't think that they even messed with the shield itself since it still does a good job at blocking damage, But it doesn't block all damage.
For instance: if someone were to hit you with a charged diamond sword while you're blocking, it will reduce the damage and take durability off of your shield.
At the first patch of 1.9 I think it was different than how it is now, which may have tricked you into thinking that cubecraft is at fault.

-------------------------------(for some odd reason quote was messed up)-----------------------------------

You are way behind in the times dude. Minecraft added a tag in 1.9 that allows you to modify items to give knockback resistance and armor. I am positive the option to add durability to items has been around for some time. Also keep this in mind, the shield costs a set of iron armor, and a half set for a item that is only situationally useful. For the shield having less knockback there could be a tip given in lobbies that enemies with shields take less knockback, and also add a lore to the shield that says"while in offhand gives reduced knockback". With the tip and the lore all a person would need to say is to check the shield item description in the villager store, so the false reports wont go up that high.(especially since the knockback resistance doesnt subtract that much knockback)

We are talking about 1.9 I don't care about 1.8. The shield is good at making you easier to hit if anything due to the reduced movement speed and you will still take a heart, or half a heart of damage while blocking even with iron armor if hit by a diamond sword. Or if the person is combat smart they will crit you to guarantee you are taking atleast a whole heart per hit. Lets take into account who uses shields
Campers:No
People trying to fight against bows:Yes
With the gap of time it takes to get to an island while blocking to avoid getting shot your shield would be completely busted.

(dude you had to have a quote closing string thingy in the middle of the text? Evil!)
Ok I didn't know that those taggs/attributes existed. Thanks for the info on that

But ignoring my other arguments? Really?

Just be thankful for the shield for what it is! Eggwars used to be a 1.8 only game and going to a camping base was a nightmare since the only viable but risky tactic was to safebridge upwards.
Shields are pretty OP already as it's a lifesaver when someone is bowspamming you to the edge.
There's no reason to buff it from what it is in vanilla. The vanilla shield is already balanced enough.
