Sweet Dreams
Translators who'll get that rank have already proven they're worthy the reward.
Translaters already get rewards so why would they get a rank aswell? Translators get stars for work they translated with those stars they can get free stuff in the cubecraft shop. Isn't that enough as a ''reward'' and like @RickDeKlomp said:
What happened to "The fact that we help the server is rewarding enough" ?
Why make a rank at all? Just giving them free obsidian and plus would be enough... Some might say that they need the rank so people can ask questions to them but what is there to ask a translator really? “How do you say hello in dutch”?
Exactly what @Weeb said, everything was fine before they introduced this new role, the fact that they didn't discuss this with the mods is not the smartest decision either. This also shows that the communication in the staff team hasn't become improved much. And I know that a lot of staff members don't think there is a need for this role, or that this role has to much perks.

I won't bother explaining further. It's fine if you think it's unnecessary. But there are many more people who think It's a great addition. Members with this rank would also have more responsibilities like helping translate reports and appeals, and maybe allow people to report/appeal things in their own language without any more struggle. Anyhow... Some people will always think one thing is bad or unnecessary, no matter how much time it'll take to explain them it might be the oposite.

Suuurprise, CubeCrafters! Suurprise, CubeCraft Games Translation Team!

Today we are excited to welcome the new addition to our CubeCraft Games staff team!

What is a translator?

We are confident that every one of you has already heard of our wonderful translation team, aiming to achieve one great goal of the community: making CubeCraft more accessible to people all over the world.

Since its inception, the translation team has continuously been filling up with members with the burning desire to make this server more enjoyable to the community, and to help the staff team to improve the network. These shared goals of theirs pulled them together into a tight-knit group where they can find supportive friends and teammates. Friends who are always there whenever you need to talk to someone, or to chill out a bit. Teammates who spend hours contributing toward team goals, use effective communication to improve the workings of the team, keep it organized, and provide a lot of high quality results for the server.

All that hard work transformed the team into one of the greatest achievements of the community. The team keeps bringing the server pride, and is an opportunity for the CubeCraft community to show off its hard working, kind hearted, and caring members.

This new voluntary staff role was introduced as a gesture of recognition to the hardest working and best behaved members of the team. It’s there to drive the team toward ever greater goals, and to ensure the continuous delivery of high-quality results.

Translator Q&A

Why is a Translator rank necessary?

CubeCraft is very lucky to have a large international audience. Translations are vital to make more people feel at home on CubeCraft in languages other than English.

From Translator, Helper to Senior Mods: volunteers make CubeCraft happen. We like to show our thanks when we can as we wouldn’t be here without the tireless efforts of our volunteer teams. We are happy to mark the contributions of long term, dedicated members of the Translation team.

We’re excited to see the continued growth and progression of the Translation team and hope to see more members achieve the prestige of the Translator rank over time.

Pro's vs Con's Spoiler

Positives the role has:
  • CubeCraft Games values the efforts of all team members who help make CubeCraft a better and more welcoming place for everyone.
  • Giving them what they deserve: Translators do vital work for our international players - work that is pretty expensive in the real world. Our team may be composed of volunteers, but that does not change the amazing quality of translations many of our translation team members provide or the huge effort they put. Of course there is always room for improvement and new members may still not be as experienced, but Translator is for the developed translators of our team.
- Translator is a huge motivation for our team to constantly improve and develop.
  • Future opportunities: The translator rank opens many doors for us in the future. As you may know the design team releases epic minigames, worlds, texture packs and skins on the official Minecraft Marketplace. An example future opportunity would be Translator staff signing NDAs, like Designers, and helping improve the quality of our Marketplace content.
  • Present opportunities: The translation team is still a massive team that has a massive project to work on. The team has over 26 languages and 400 members on it. We have many projects - on the forums, server rules, server Helpdesk, Discord server and most importantly - Java and Bedrock network translations.
- Translator is a huge motivation for our team to complete big projects quickly and efficiently.

- Translator is a huge opportunity for our team to attract the attention of awesome people. The introduction of this rank will now mean users who don't use the forums will see this rank in game and be curious what it is, what that person does, and will prompt them to think ‘’Maybe I could do that?’’

Negatives the rank has and solutions for them:
  • Red is a bit confusing, since it was used for Admin. - Red was our only appropriate choice for a rank color. I hope that you can understand why colors like White or Black do not fall under the appropriate colors category - they look broken and will be hardly visible on platforms like Discord or Forums that have both light and dark themes. They are not meant to be used for ranks.
Unfortunately, the only thing we can really do to solve it is give people some time to get used to it.
  • Like with anything else, it may attract people for the wrong reasons:
- Our Translation team has a recruitment team and recruitment manager to handle all low quality applications we receive.

- Translators go through a translation skill test that tests their abilities to translate. If the quality of it is not good enough to help our team, the translator would be removed.

- Our translations go through a couple of translators and proofreaders before being implemented. We now have a translations manager to make sure this process is strictly followed. Trolling in translations is not really possible.

- Our translation team has an activity management system composed of Coordinators and an Activity manager to look after the activity of the team. If someone joins the team just for the sake of earning a rank and does not work, they would be eventually removed.

- Our Translation team has managers to look after the behavior of the team and deal with possible troublemakers.

- The Translator rank cannot be achieved in cases of bad quality of translations, bad behavior, low levels of activity. Translators are being recruited by the Admin Team and Translation Team Managers. The Translator rank can be lost if the translator manages to keep a mask on until promotion, then starts misbehaving or not working after achieving it.

- The Translator staff team has a manager to monitor their activity and handle staff feedback threads. The Translator rank also does not have permissions, like Mods have, that would make it difficult for us to spot abuse of the role. More information about the responsibilities and permissions you can find in the questions below.
That all being said, I hope you can understand why we would not give up on the many positives of the rank because of a rank color or situations that every possible staff rank can cause. Situations we can easily deal with.

Also won't there technically be a point where translations are mostly 100% complete across the server?
Imagine a list of over 26 languages that keeps growing. Imagine every word, sentence you see on the Java and Bedrock server. Imagine how many websites we got, even if we only work on forums, official rules, helpdesk, discord translations now, that does not mean we cannot go to other websites eventually too. Imagine the Marketplace project we mentioned in the Pro's of having the rank. Imagine CubeCraft keeps releasing and releasing new content.

This is a massive, unending project.

Why is the Translator rank red?
It’s red because Minecraft doesn’t have many colours and it was the only appropriate spare one. White and Black are not considered appropriate - they look broken and would not work on platforms like Forums or Discord that have light and dark themes.

How are Translators recruited? / Translators can abuse.
Translator is being given to the most active, hardest working members of the team who have proved to be committed to the server and provide good quality translations.

Candidates for Translator are being selected and discussed by the Admin Team and translation management team. Translators are trustworthy.

Did you not already give Translators rewards? / Remove the stars rewarding system now that Translator is a thing.
What is a stars rewarding system? - People earn an amount of stars for their work. The statistics of people are saved by a Discord bot. Translators of the translation team can use these stars to purchase CubeCraft Games store content.

As explained earlier, Translator is not only a reward. Translators are staff, they contribute to the server and it's vital work they do for our international players.

Translators will continue receiving stars on top of their rank. All staff receive a salary/small rewards for their work apart from all the cool perks they get on our CubeCraft Games platforms. CubeCraft tries to give small things back where they can for the hard work of our volunteers.

The stars rewarding system will also not be removed. Not everyone on the team will manage to reach Translator and people need to be able to earn something for their work.

They have more permissions than Helper? Why need Translator when we have a Moderation team?
Translator was never added because of the responsibilities it has on the staff team. Translator’s magic happens in translations. By giving Translator responsibilities on the staff team, we are just using the most of the trustworthiness of the people owning the rank.

Similar to Designer and Developer, Translator is only able to lock threads after answering a translation related question, escalate only translation related suggestions, and answer only translation related questions in #staff-help. They are also only allowed to edit threads when helping the translation team implement forum translations.

Moderation roles have much, much more freedom when it comes to permissions, because their responsibility is moderation.

Why access to /nick? /nick can be abused. Why unlimited friends slots?
We want to improve the gaming quality of Translators, not ruin it by giving them a rank that attracts a lot of attention. In cases of abuse, staff have easy ways of finding out the real username of the nicked user.

Every staff rank has unlimited friends slots.

30 new translators!!? U only need like 2 or maybe 3 per language lol..
If you are referring to the Translator staff team, it was explained that the rank will not be given to everyone and is difficult to reach.

However, if you are referring to the workings of the translation team, I would strongly disagree. Having a small team work on a massive project leads to having an overwhelmed team and slow progress on the project. It leads to demotivation on the team, quick resignations, and huge dissatisfaction.

The keys to having a happy team and successful project are recruiting as many volunteers as you can (no overpopulation), testing the quality of their work and keeping the best ones, distributing the work so no one is overwhelmed and using all your creativity when it comes to motivating the team.

We have not had work for a while, now you introduce a Translator rank?
We are very ready to get back to work with full strength, like never before, because the last few months have been essential for the development of the team.

Our team has expanded a lot and is now highly motivated - nothing can stop a highly motivated team from achieving its goals. We have managers that work in different departments of the team and the work is no longer on a single person’s shoulders, which will significantly improve the management of the team.

In the last few months, I have prepared a string translations system that is expected to provide a huge amount of good quality translations, and it is now ready for release.

Due to the tons of work waiting for us in the future, the tons of work we have done in the past and the huge potential our team has, I consider the introduction of Translator reasonable and essential for the motivation of the team.

What happened with ''Helping is enough reward''?
Hope you understand that the translation team did not introduce this rank. It was our admin team that did. While it may be enough reward for them, we like giving back where we can,

The fact that the moderators didn't know about this change before it was introduced to the community kind of gives me the hint that communication within the staff team hasn't improved.
CubeCraft Games values all the efforts of all team members who help make CubeCraft a better and more welcoming place for everyone. We wanted to surprise valued members of the Translations team with news about the rank to thank them for all the effort they've been putting in. Translations are really important for making CubeCraft accessible to those who don't speak English well or prefer to play in their native language.

We really wanted it to be a surprise but the consequence of this is that this caught our staff team offguard as we did not consult or discuss with them prior to announcement.

This was wrong of us and we are sorry, in 2020 we committed to being more transparent and although our hearts were in the right place, the execution was misguided and led to confusion within our volunteer base which should be avoided in the future.

Going forwards we will try to continue being more open about what we are doing. Generally, this has been the case, we just failed a bit on the way to improvement. We really hope you can understand that our Admin Team is still new and mistakes like this are bound to happen. We are thankful to have the support of our staff team and community as we learn and improve

I really did put some of my personal time to explain why the translator rank is a good move...
But I admit I couldn't explain it better...
