Do you think the language plugin is too strict?

Players can always find a way around the language plug-in. Whether it's replacing letters for numbers or adding spaces or symbols to represent letters, the only way to ensure that people don't avoid it is to ban every letter, number and word in the english langauge. Despite it seeming necessary, do we really need to filter the words 'jesus', or 'lag'? i mean, if i am lagging when i am trying to fight someone, i tend to say "wait a sec, really laggy" or something like that, but now i find myself saying "wait a sec, i am on a low fps" or something, which means the same thing but is more of a burden to say. The fact that the commonly used word 'lag' has been filtered is deemed unnecessary and causes more of a problem than it solves; if someone is lagging, they will now say 'l4g', or 'laag', or even 'l@g', which is more annoying than simply 'lag'. That's not all though. The language plug-in has been made very strict lately, to an extent where, using @Divvy1 's example, you can't even say Got it anymore, due to the fact that there's an 'inappropriate word' within the two, which isn't even noticeable. I have been asked not to say specific sentences that aren't inappropriate or offensive at all, just because by adding a few spaces or punctuation, an inappropriate word may be formed only to those who are actually looking for it. If players willingly avoid the plug-in to say inappropriate things, they can be reported and muted, but it isn't really deemed fair to make talking with others more difficult due to the fact that the plugin is too strict.
The following link will lead you to a thread with another example;

It could lighten up, because no matter what, people will swear if they really want to.

I agree, to say things like 'that's not it' (just an example) I have to put an underscore between not and it so I can actually say that simple sentence.. yeah /:

My view on this is people will swear if they want to. Whether it's a full stop, a space, an underscore, a hashtag, a semi colon, a star, a dash or any of the other many ways to mask. If they want to mask, they will. They won't be like "oh no I can't do it with a full stop let's not swear" because they want to swear, they'll just use another form of masking. Also, a space is a widely used thing around letters, there are a lot of innocent things that are said that are effected by the plug in. Sometimes it's even hard to figure out what you're doing wrong. You should be able to type innocent sentences without having to mask it. Because, you may think it's stopping people from swearing, but they'll find other ways. The effect it's having most is being annoying to innocent users, rather than stopping people from swearing. There's no doubt about the fact there's a problem with the anti swear being easy to bypass, but this is not the way to solve it, it's an issue that can't be solved by banning them with a space between. It's near impossible to solve. Yes, if you banned every single thing between letters in swears and all alternative using numbers in swears it might stop it, but it would effect innocents in ways that aren't really worth it. By innocents I'm meaning people who are not allowed to say simple sentences and are not using the space to bypass the plug in.

In conclusion if you're too lazy to read the whole post; Swearers gonna swear even if space not allowed. More of a negative effect on innocent sentences than stopping swearing with spaces between.

Yeah, you can do a lot of things to bypass bad words, not just &7.
Here's a fine example, with marvelous quality, provided by the brilliant SUPERxSNAP himself :)

There's always gonna be a way to get around it, so there really is little point in having it. Well, if it blocks out the correct spelling of specific words then it's fine, but when you add lag to it, you can't even say villager -_-

Lag is almost ALWAYS [ "LAAGGG" 'SO MUCH LAGG" "laglaglag" ] spammed when the server comes to a moment where the activity is noticeably lagging for everyone, it also makes life easier for staff to not have another thing to worry about being spammed for. "ADMIN PLS HELP GET RID OF THE LAG" "TAKE LAG AWAY" It wouldn't be sensible to take that away in the plugin for the reason you stated above.

If someone has to bypass the plugin to say "lag" in a different manner, that is fine but if you really find it that annoying, you are just going to have to deal with it. After all, it's one word and I'm sure it won't ruin your day. There are more benefits having it in the plugin then not, as we find people use the word lag to spam it when the server is lagging, rather then it being used in a sensible way.

I think the term "Got it" should be removed from the plugin though, agreed. Tits are tits and we use the term in a more casual way then we do in an inappropriate way, I find. I've never really seen anyone go "Got tits." & even if they do, like I said, tits are tits and we shouldn't be scared of em.

We're looking into more robust ways to match wordings and keep the chat cleaner, as of now that is the system that has been put in place.

Lag was added to the list due to the sheer amount of spam that can happen with that word, were just a single part of our network have issues.

As of now this thread is closed, further updates will follow.
