I think this is still new for everyone, but in the same way I would like to talk about this topic.
As you all know, a couple of days ago the official Minecraft channel announced that soon, at some point in 2021 we will have to migrate our Mojang accounts to a Microsoft account.
I really want to know what you think about all this and how it will affect. :oof:

They give out a free cape for it which I'm not a big fan of BUT as I said somewhere, this is my theory of why they do it:

I think that Mojang is trying to devaluate capes because capes are getting sold like crazy (thousands of dollars) which is against their EULA. Capes are super rare and people did crazy things for them. They gave everyone easy access to capes on bedrock as well: everyone has a pancake cape unlocked by default and most people also have a minecon 2019 cape.

On the other hand, talking about the actual account migration: I like what they did, it hopefully decreases the number of alts people will have access to, to hack on as they say it's better protected.

What would you like to be added to the poll and what's the poll question?

Are you talking about the optifine cape? and cosmetics of some specific clients? (Badlion, Labymod) long ago there were rumors that the optifine capes were no longer going to work, but I had never thought about this

There are actual official Minecraft capes that other minecrafters can see without the use of any mods, those capes were quite rare and are loved by the community because of their rarity.
Those capes will be given out by Microsoft/Mojang now

It's good that 2FA will be a thing, but I think giving a cape to everyone is going to kill clients/mods such as optifine, 5zig, labymod, BLC, etc, because they get their revenue from capes and other such cosmetics.

Overall, I am not a fan.

Accounts that are really very old, some people no longer have access to their email, and that's where the trouble begins

I can understand why a decent amount of people would see this as a bad thing since it is definitely going to make capes more common. But I personally feel like it will only cause the currently existing capes to increase in value. Because, hear me out, more people will now become aware of official capes, meaning that the capes we currently have will only gain in popularity and thus increase in demand!

On the Bedrock Edition, there has never really been a demand for official capes since the first ones only got released maybe two or three years ago and the majority of the resellers/ collectors already joined the community way earlier than that. And also most of the capes they did give away, were distributed in large quantities to avoid them getting rare.
But who knows what the future holds. Maybe due to the increasing popularity of Bedrock, a market may arise over the years. I have already heard about certain limited edition skin packs from back in the day that contained capes.

Like the 2013 'Skin Pack 4' that was only purchasable on the Xbox 360 Edition

Maybe a bit of a dumb question, but do chat prefixes exist on Cubecraft Java like they do on Bedrock?
