It's a good premise, but I feel it will end horribly. For instance, on magic I could get a diamond pickaxe and mine the ground until the egg has twenty layers of obsidian.
Very good point. Maybe blacklist certain blocks from being broken. For example, obsidian, the blocks around gens, or the block under the egg. And, maybe add a feature where blocks not bought from villagers can't be placed around an egg in a certain circumference.
This could be turned off for hardcore. Also, when I mean you can't edit before reaching center, I meant you can't destroy blocks. Sorry for the confusion!
traps i dont think really would help in any way to be honest people can just go around or they die before reaching the island
This is currently punishable though. You aren't allowed to hide in an unkillable area.
Skybasing is only punishable in skywars and camping isnt punishable at all, however there is a glitch where you spawn in the flatlands, now thats punished if you stay there

No because you can buy a lot of blocks and break them as you go. That's what people do to hide under the island and camp at their island
