So you probably can’t change this but I’m interested if there is any control over this.

My question is can the timer cool down for messaging be reduced while in different parts of the forums.

For example on the games you expect them to be a little more spammy and therefore should have less.

But for more important things the timer should be longer as we don’t want just any random spam

Again just thinking probably won’t get changed as I don’t think anyone here has the reach to change anything on site but I am interested about it. Because it’s hella annoying jumping from one reply to another and having it say “ you must wait 21s to chat” 🤣

I understand that it's annoying I really do, but it's only a 30 second cooldown which is really not that bad (except when you're trying to reply to all those Happy Birthday messages!). Navigating the forums isn't exactly the quickest thing, and usually most of that cooldown time gets burnt away as you switch from one thread to another, so I am sure this has not happened to you very often.

From a Moderation point of view the 30 second cooldown is a good protection against spam bots, spammers in general, and message farming. Some people still somehow manage to post dozens of messages in a few minutes, imagine if we didn't have the cooldown!

Also the cooldown is there as an encouragement for you to be thoughtful on the kinds of things that you post on the forums, sure, posting short sentences as replies is ok, but the whole point of a forum website is more elevated, thoughtful conversation. Having the cooldown encourages you to take things a little slower, and elaborate your ideas more!

I would not grant the forum games subforum an exception because the only game where that would be necessary is likely Count Until Staff Interrupts, all other games likely also require longer responses rendering the 30 second cooldown pretty insignificant.

I also would not grant an exception to profile posts because that would likely lead to muuuch longer profile posts with lots of replies as some sort of web-based chat. It would also allow spammers to target and harass users at a larger scale. Profiles are likely the places where we see the most instances of spam, I would rather not make that problem any worse.
