Then get your public ip from here: www.whatsmyip.org
Then tell your friends to connect to "yourpublicIP:theport" if u use default port "25565" then they only need to connect to the public ip.

This way your computer stuff should automatically do the computer-thingy that allows you to do some more computer stuff. Show me the portforwarded port. Show me the server.properties. And how are they connecting? I mean do they use the public ip or the public ip with the port behind it?

This is exactly what I said, I believe.

Drew was almost right, although your WAN (external) IP doesn't go in server.properties. You just use a different IP to connect to your friends. The IP your friends use to connect can be viewed by going to http://cmyip.com/ - send them this one instead of your LAN (internal) IP.
