100% disagree.
This will just lead to others ripping-off one of Cubecraft’s (formerly) very successful gamemodes. This means that Cubecraft won’t ever be able to release it as an LTM mode in the future (like they did with Luck Islands To4 a couple months back) because what would be the point when the gamemode would already be available elsewhere?

the mode hasn't been available here or anywhere else for 2 years. TD didn't contribute to the success of this network - bedrock's stuff did.

The suggestion aside, I’d like to mention that all the “bedrock stuff” you mean, originally came from Java. It is simply no longer available there at the moment. Neither network is better.

I wholeheartedly agree with Reesle. I’m no developer, but I would assume another argument against making the code open source is that it is their code - in which the entire network is coded. It’s part of their company, why would they give it away for free to allow others to make ripoff versions…

bedrock is clearly doing better and you're coping if you think java is anywhere close. it did so without TD. TD has nothing to do with bedrock and cubecraft at its current state.

I am a developer, and yeah you have full rights to the code that you write or hire others to write. however, if someone asked me for code that i'd previously written and now don't use, then i'd let them have at it. most other developers would agree. it's selfish to hold on to something you don't use.

ripoffs have and will happen regardless. open sourcing the game would help the ripoffs yes - that's the point. people want to play the game. let the people do so.

That is not my point. However, I would like to mention that you honestly cannot compare Java with Bedrock. Bedrock is way more accessible compared to Java. CubeCraft Java isn’t dying because it’s bad; Java in general just cannot compare to Bedrock’s wide playerbase.

Take Hypixel for instance: it used to have so many players, all games were super active - especially during covid lockdowns. Now look at it. The majority of games start even slower than on CubeCraft Java, some don’t start at all. Their playercount is nearly 70% if not more from their ‘Skyblock’, which is an incredibly intricate RPG. The only games that still start are namely BedWars, SkyWars (normal mode), Build Battle and extremely fast games like Murder Mystery. The seasonal bingo is a super fun event, but most of it is impossible to achieve due to the fact that their games just do not start. CubeCraft does that much better.

That aside, my point was that all of the games you see on Bedrock right now, originated from the Java network. Not to mention that their code between Java and Bedrock is wholly intertwined now. If you claim that Java does or has done nothing for Bedrock, I’m sorry but that simply is not true.

Selfish or not, it is a choice. Their choice as a company. Why should they help their competition?

They are not obliged to provide other people access to that code. One person calling them ‘selfish’ for that is not going to change anything. Nor would it if half the community did. It is ultimately their choice, not ours.

Duh, of course it happens. That doesn’t mean they have to support it though.

Imagine you came up with an awesome game concept, started your own server and implemented it with a small developer team. Your network becomes popular, and suddenly people start making ripoffs of your game and making money off it. Why should you help them earn that money? It’s competition from a business perspective.

If people want to play the game, they can develop their own version. CubeCraft doesn’t need to provide their code that took tons of hours and resources - like money - to develop themselves.
