We've all had that game, where it's just you and a friend, then that one kid joins your team who just doesn't get the game. Or, when you've tried to play it solo and you can't seem to get others to follow your strategy. However, I may have the obvious solution here, that we've all been thinking of.
Instead of teams of 6 as the max, there should be different sizes of teams, ranging from 1 to 6. For the team sizes 1 to 3, there may have to be slightly smaller maps however, from sizes 4 upwards, only very little coding will be required. This is because all that needs to be done is changing the max lobby size. The enemies, towers and 'Armageddon' may have to be nerfed, but I believe it will be better gameplay overall.
There may also be different towers, depending on what team size you are playing. Maybe, for example, there is one that automatically generates 1 zombie every 5 seconds, so that in solo you have one less thing to worry about.
This would encourage more people to play Tower Defence, as you can play with only your friends, don't get shouted if your new and don't have to shout at others in the first place. Each game would also be different, because of the different towers, making every game unique.
There is only one flaw with this idea, you can't blame anyone but yourself if you lose on 1 v 1.
