Should the "Skin Sizes" option be disabled for PvP so that everyone has the same size for fair PvP

Hello,

I've been wanting to do this thread for a while but yesterday I've had my final straw with the "small skins". Recently Minecraft Bedrock gave the option to customize your own character by choosing your own hairstyles, eyes, clothes, and many other things. I am totally fine with this added feature but then comes to the "character size" option. You can now choose how tall your character is, the smallest being about 2/3 of a block shorter than the default size. When people use this in PvP, it gives them an unnecessary advantage due to their size. I have tested and found that the hitboxes are still the same, but that doesn't mean it is fair game. Since they are so small you find yourself looking down more often and makes the PvP a bit different in a way I dislike. In my opinion, I find this feature is unnecessary and annoying. Its harder to know where their hitboxes are because they are much shorter. If we want a better PvP experience I would say please restrict the smaller skin sizes. I've seen it done on the Mineplex server, in fact, Mineplex has everyone set to the same size, same skin so that the games are fair "skin wise" no matter what. I understand that having your own skin is a cool feature and I agree. I do not want to go as strict as Mineplex to the point where no one can even use a custom skin. I just want to propose the idea of restricting the smaller sizes for more fair PvP.

Thanks,

No offense, but for you to get mad about skin size you must be really bad at aiming, or just be bad a PvP in general. See it as a challenge. Plus some people love small skins not because of the unfair advantage, but because they like look nice.

(edit) this comes from a person that has experience playing and winning against those yoda skins that are smaller than a block.-

I understand that they look nice, but then again, unnecessary advantage.

EDIT: PLUS, no thats a stupid idea to think of it as an extra challenge. The challenge is based on the players skill not the players skin they have chosen.

Did you read what I said? "No offense, but for you to get mad about skin size you must be really bad at aiming, or just be bad a PvP in general. See it as a challenge" If you are a mobile/no mouse user I'd get aiming issues, but if you play on PC nothing to fuss about.

Yes, I did. Thanks for the assumption. Though whether I am bad or not doesn't change the issue. Thank you for your vote.

You are making me feel bad for being so rude lol, anyways one last question, you said hitboxes are the same, and all you have to do is point downwards, I don't mean to annoy you but what is so difficult about that.

I like to hit more towards the center of players when I fight (to make sure I do actually hit them). With the skin being much smaller its harder to decide where to hit. (Sorry for the late response I'm playing skywars TO4 with FighterMD and AmbientTurtle as we speak).

I'm not a bedrock player so excuse me for possible misunderstandings.
This probably causes issues across the whole server, even if the hitboxes are the same, you physically won't be able to see some players with smaller skins whereas if they have a regular skin you would. Obviously, to ensure a fair game for all participants, skin-sizes should be the same for everyone. I honestly think it's a dumb feature in the first place lol.

Having code detect and alter skins if they're not of the same height would be nice for duels, but that must surely become too much of a hustle when dealing with larger player-counts.

I find it hard to come up with a genuine good solution.
Forcing everyone's skin to be the same is of course not preferable either, however, because of a lack of inventiveness from my side, I'm leading towards thinking that it is the best solution for now.

Thanks, you summed it up better than I did lol.

I can see your point, and now that I think about it it really worsens when a mobile player has to play against slightly shorter figure. Though I maybe I'm just an oddball but I usually aim more towards the neck of the player, (I strafe a lot so for me it's better if I am higher up). But again most players might hit center thus reducing the space you think you can hit. Also good luck while playing! Hope you win some.

Sincerely

Hello,

So this has been something that's been bothering me for a while. Unfortunately, the general issue that we have is dealing with Bedrock skins is extremely difficult as a server. Our skin system doesn't even do half of what we want it to do at the moment, due to a general lack of understand of how the system works. Since the new skin editor was released, we've not really ever managed to get back on our feet with the new skin system. This means we don't currently have enough of an understand of how to filter out these specific skins yet.

We also have the issue that players are extremely sensitive about their skins. We recently had an issue where players may have looked like other players in our lobbies (I believe I fixed this, however not sure), and this bug caused a huge backlash because players "didn't have the skin that they equipped". Because of this we've learnt that tinkering with players skins can actually be very impactful on the size of our player base.

I'd love to make it so that we stretch all skins to the height of a regular player, however this is not something that is possible from our server end (unless with some serious work).

Basically, at the moment, we're really torn between what we should do. We've recently acquired a new protocol developer who is currently learning how all our systems work so that they can tackle bugs and all the fun stuff we have in our protocol code. It is also planned that they work on improving our skin system. I will make sure that before starting this new system, it will be discussed then wether or not we block skins of a certain height or not (Or a compromise, such as forcing a hat on them).

Maybe a bit of a dumb question, but do chat prefixes exist on Cubecraft Java like they do on Bedrock?
