It's been a while since we last updated our progress with Sentinel. This post contains a brief review of Sentinel's progress since it's highly anticipated release and insight on the new Sentinel appeal system.

The Goal
Sentinel, our in-house anti-cheat to ensure fair play across the network. It was planned to work in the background and be invisible to regular daily players to avoid any distractions from the game in hand. However, recently, Sentinel has started to inform players of its presence and accountable actions.

Progression
Released in early March 2017, Sentinel has made significant progress and has thus reduced the number of active cheaters on the network. As of this date, it has banned a total of 562,606 players. That is an average of 1,863 players banned every day, over 10,819 players banned every week, and more than 46,883 players banned every month. These numbers are consistently high and increase as Sentinel becomes smarter.

Sentinel has had developed rare cases of both major and minor false positives. These outbreaks were addressed as soon as possible once noticed by our intensive analysis process for all active detections. False positives are an issue in any anti-cheat and certain measures have been put in place to prevent and reduce the likeness of a player being falsely punished. Moreover, we believe that when Sentinel detects a cheater, they should be removed from the network instantly. However, in the early months, this was not possible and to this day, precautions are taken when implementing new detections. Although when a detection matures with a statistically low chance of false infractions, it is will issue a punishment instantly rather than through a ban-wave.

Future
As cheats advance so does Sentinel. This process is usually referred to as a cat and mouse game, between hackers, those that create cheats and exploits, and anti-cheat developers, those work to prevent cheats and exploits. In the not so distant future, we plan to transition Sentinel’s future detections to more heavily rely on artificial intelligence and machine learning. This will help us to identify new exploits more efficiently and help ensure a positive player experience on CubeCraft.

NEW Sentinel (Appeal) Conversation System:
With recent exposure to the community with respect to the Sentinel appeal process, we alternatively found a better solution. We have decided to move all communication for Sentinel-related bans from Discord to the appeal website. This will allow us to respond to inquiries faster than ever before. This will allow you, a valued player, to enjoy your time playing on the server with friends rather than waiting for a response, if you were falsely banned.

To successfully use this newly implemented system, please following the guideline below:

1. Once your (regular) appeal has been denied, a button should appear named "Discuss your appeal". This will open up a new conversation with a certified Sentinel staff member, whom will assist you with any concerns with your Sentinel ban.

2. You will be given a set of questions, dependant on the violations recorded by Sentinel, that will assist the assigned representative in making a fully-aware decision on your ban status. We insist that you include the utmost detail when it asks for a written response.

3. After all of the inquired questions have been answered, your conversation status will be set under review. It could take up to 2-3 business days for your review to be looked at due to the extreme volume of submitted appeals.

4. When your conversation inquiry has been reviewed, and if more information is requested, you will be able to converse with the assigned representative.
