Everyone lands on a small starting island which is empty but relatively safe. Starting islands have no chests, but there are chests a short, easy jump away. There is no way to return to the starting island. This is so players who start with eggs/bow or just plain good luck can't just stay on the safe-ish spawn forever. Terrain cannot be added/removed a-la hunger games forcing parkour. Alternatively everything could be made out of materials that can't be built off (e.g. crafting tables, chests).
As you get lower in the map there would be a greater density of blocks, some platforms, more chests. This is to balance the advantage that players who are still higher up on a map get in terms of ranged PvP. There should be a way back up in the middle is to allow any spawn campers to be killed.
It could be implemented as a new map in the existing Sky Wars set up with virtually zero developer time required. Just something for any builders with time on their hands to think about...
