Short thread? Most likely not..
Will it have a serious issue as the topic? Yes.
Do we need to fix this? Yes. Immediately.
As you can see in the title, I'll be covering the application system & basically hiring staff.
As you may know, recently there's been a LOT of staff resigning. (around 12 THIS YEAR)
But they've only hired, what, 2 moderators and 1 admin (Who has done nothing because of IRL situation)?
This needs to be changed.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the admins are the ones that go through the applications to decide whether someone has a chance or not.
The problem with this, is that it's ONLY the admins+. Back when Mac was still here, he probably used to do some of the applications too. Now that he's gone because of him resigning/being demoted, there are some applications out there that were checked by him and denied due to his own take on it. Now that he has moved to Prime, his take on it is no longer a huge role in the application.
And honestly, there are plenty of people on the forums who genuinely deserve to be a staff member, but never got a chance.
How does this have to do with the staff application system?
There are WAY too little staff being hired for the amount that are resigning/being demoted.
The way applications are accepted, is also not that fair in my opinion. What may I be talking about?
Lack of power for the community:
It's the staff that get to decide whether someone is accepted or not, let alone get an interview. There are people on these forums who in my opinion deserve to be a staff member more than anyone.
The community NEEDS to have a say in whether somebody gets to have an interview or even accepted.
The application system is only something to show potential in someone, and you can easily lie in it and keep the act going. The community MUST be able to have a say in who gets to be accepted or not, simply because the staff team shouldn't get to decide something that has a huge influence on the community on their own.
Expectations are too high:
I can probably name out 3-4 players that have gotten an interview after they've applied (but not accepted). And those are people who I wouldn't expect to be able to have a chance at being a staff member.
This leads me to believe, that rarely anyone can get accepted because of the strict expectations.
You guys have got to lower them if you want to keep this server alive. I don't know if you realize this, but 30-40 moderators is NOT enough to handle a playerbase of 10K.
(Note how I say 10K now, since the amount of players are slowly going down because of what's happening. This doesn't have much to do with this thread though)
Application resets:
Last announced reset, was around the beginning of this year. That's nearly 4 months ago (120 days!).
I imagine a lot of people making their application, and editing them overtime to add notes which could give them a bigger chance.
This means, that if they've been denied, editing won't help a bit & they NEED to wait until the next unknown reset.
The application resets need to be more frequent in order to avoid unnecessary denials like this.
If any of the staff are reading this, consider listening to what I said carefully. I can guarantee you that lots will agree with me & it's what Cube needs at this time. The amount of staff is a joke compared to the player base Cube has, and we need to get better alternatives to this inefficient system. To sum it up, you'll have to consider the following: Lowering the expectations, Have scheduled & frequent resets, Allow the community to have a say in who gets to be a staff member or not, as the staff members are the only ones deciding.
Now. Before you go and reply things like "The community plays a big role! If they don't like Johnny, then he won't be a staff member!", that's not the problem. Even if the community wants someone as a staff member, it's always the admins & the management team who get to make the important choices regardless of how much the community trusts them & some of the staff members are not very well liked.
