I was thinking that it would be cool to have a survival island server. it would be like Sky Block, except with the Survival Island challenge added to it. You can have up to four people on your island. The goal of this server would basically just be to get the most swigggidy island possible. You would get points for completing challenges, for example "Mate two animals." You could also have allies islands that you can tp to and hang out at, but you can't edit it (to prevent griefing). I think it would be loads of fun, would do you guys think?

To me this actually sounds like a good idea, In skyblock you are very limited to resources. However on an island you are not limited, which means free to do more "fun" stuff or kewl stuff on your island. Also it would be like a mini Survival lp with your friends :)

When I read this, I thought it was a portmanteau of Skyblock and Survival Games. After reading, though, I gotta agree with Aimee. Sounds too much like Skyblock.
Thats kinda inevitable though, all survival esque servers are similar. I think the Island aspect would appeal to some people more than the sky aspect appeals to them, ik it does for me at least :3.

You could make it more competitive than skyblock though. Like, every month the server resets and in that time you have to try and get the most "points" with your team. There could be rankings, which unlike in skyblock, would give you a very clear goal to work towards. Tasks like killing the Ender Dragon, or crafting exceedingly difficult items would of course grant a huge amount of points, while small menial tasks such as getting a large quantity of iron (say a stack) would only grant a few. Then players would have go learn and execute efficient strategies to consistently get to the top of the leader boards.

I like the idea of an island and the challenges but I don't like the idea of resetting the server each month. I would never get far and having to redo every single thing every single month would annoy me so much I wouldn't play it.

Yeah that was my one problem with that idea

Solution: Theres a survival island server that never resets. The monthly competitions don't change or affect your main island. What happens is that at the start of each month/competition you can tp to a fresh, competitive island in addition to your main casual island. That way the people who want to compete can without interfering with other player's islands.
Rewards for the monthly competitions could be ranks, like for SG/SW, or rare items for your main island.

Now that sounds better. I would play that.

I, being a fan of both gamemodes, can tell you that they're nothing like each other at all, and anybody that says so has evidently never played both games before.

Skyblock is at first, a tedious gamemode in which you're left on a chunk of rock in the sky with limited space to build, breathe or set up farms, and of course with the permanent risk of falling into the void. It turns into a grind-fest, having to wait for trees to grow so that you can get enough wood to make another stone pickaxe whilst you mine cobblestone from your dull cobblestone generator for 40 minutes to build a house. However, once you've expanded enough then the world is yours - you can get animals, make farms, build skyscrapers and mob farms and it basically becomes animal crossing, but with brutality towards animals.

Survival island however is difficult from start to finish, with the players being stranded on an island and locked on hard difficulty for added intensity. Sure, blocks are easier to obtain and you get the privilege of gathering your own ores rather than purchasing them from a shop plugin, but due to the far-out ocean biome separating you from the mainland, your island is a giant green mob spawner, with zombies, spiders, creepers and endermen attacking you relentlessly. The aim is to defeat the bosses with limited resources, and that's exactly what you have; limited resources. You have to grind for food throughout the entire game, and there's no room for luxury due to the intimidating mob spawn rate.

However due to the size of this server, i doubt that a survival island server will ever be possible, since the gamemode would have to be instanced to ensure that you don't get raided by other players. This would take up a lot of memory since the worlds have to be very large to ensure that each island has a large enough ocean, an adequate amount of mines and cave systems, and an island big enough to support up to 4 players. Because of how many players there are on the server daily, you'll have hundreds of islands being generated constantly, and these worlds cannot be small as otherwise it may as well just be skyblock with mining.
If you want to play survival island, then downloading the map would probably be your best bet. Of course, there's always the suggestion of resetting the game every month, but then nobody would play it knowing that their hard work is going to be lost in a few weeks time.

Let me start of by saying that that is a very concisce and accurate few paragraphs, well done diglett.
It did occur to me that the size of the server would be the biggest argument against this idea, maybe @Marco Slater (halothe23) can enlighten us (me, i'm a noob at this stuff) more.

You wouldn't need the islands to scale in size with the amount of players on the island, more players just means more fun/efficiency.

I have played SL before, and in my return to MC i decided to try it again with 1.8.3, and it's really fun. I thought it would be great fun to have this on CCG, hence the suggestion.

Theoretically, if SL would be able to fit in the server, would you like it?

Omg, the lag would be horrible though. With any of these solutions, it would just be... unplayable. It would take 5 minutes to load a few chunks when you log in,the block lag would take over the world, and it would have about a ten minutes delay on it.
Otherwise I'd be in favour of this.

Where did you get 10 minutes from? O.o

Nevertheless, I've seen many YouTubers do this (Syndicate ect) and I enjoyed watching it, so why not try it out! :>

For once the players are not agreeing with staff :).
Also what if the survival island server was Ultra Hardcore. So it is like mixing UHC and Skyblock together. Making this a harder experience to players. If they die. Their island resets.
