Okay but it gets to the point where it just looks like a lazy solution. You are willing to sacrifice the effectiveness of your chat to actually communicate just to avoid swearing?I can refer you to the previous thread on this, if you have specific requests for words being removed from the filter or at least removed from the party chat filter let me know. Giving players feedback on whether their sentence has been blocked or not is not going to happen, the benefits of not showing feedback far outweigh the negatives.
How are we supposed to give feedback if we don't know when something is blocked?I can refer you to the previous thread on this, if you have specific requests for words being removed from the filter or at least removed from the party chat filter let me know. Well but sometimes i write a message in the chat, without swearing and toxic but that message is blocked and my friends can't see it. I agree with the words blocked like "L" "eZ" "touch" etc. don't remove it. yesterday i wrote in the chat "Por que nos tenemos en la f list?" (Why we're friends?) and my friend didn't see it. Please fix.I'm more than willing to make changes that make sense, the problem seems to be that it apparently blocks incorrect things all the time, but no-one can actually give me a sentence that gets blocked when it shouldn't, or at least haven't yet in this thread. I regularly review the blocked chat and fix things that shouldn't be blocked, although I've not had to fix anything for a while.
I send my message before reading this. I'm not trying to spam. That’s probably because you haven’t realized how common these fake blocks are. It gets to the point where I have to ask “did you get the message” every time I say something...I'm looking at it from a player point of view as well. If we tell you what is being blocked again then the result will be that players actively try and bypass the filters that are in place in order to break the rules. That will result in those filters becoming unnecessarily broad which results in a bunch of false positive matches (we know this because this was the exact situation a year ago). No feedback means that filters can be kept narrower while also being more effective and allowing communication far more easily (because there will be fewer false matches). The positives far outweigh the relatively small impact to UX (which you could argue is actually a positive impact due to the reduction in false positives).
If players are swearing like crazy, yeah, that's a problem. Blocking words like "noob" and "ez" isn't swearing. It's being toxic. Especially "ez". I get that these words a blocked. I'd perfer them not to be blocked but I don't care all that much about those words.I'm looking at it from a player point of view as well. The thing is, players are more prone to realize their message got blocked if they had used a bad word in their sentence. Meanwhile, players that don’t even say bad things that could potentially be blocked by the chat filter have no idea of what is going on.The chat filter blocked 54k messages yesterday alone, I'm not naive enough to think that none of these were false positives, but I don't think you appreciate the scale here. The fact that I've sat and watched the blocked messages for the last few minutes (at 1 or 2 messages a second) and not seen anything that shouldn't be there means the false positive hit is quite low. As I said, if you find stuff being blocked that shouldn't be, let me know and I'll look into it, I appreciate that this is made more difficult by not getting feedback (which itself reinforces why having no feedback is necessary).
Saying actual swear words, like the f word, yeah, they should be blocked.
I am 100% sure not all 54k words were "innocent" words. But some might were. The chat filter blocked 54k messages yesterday alone, I'm not naive enough to think that none of these were false positives, but I don't think you appreciate the scale here. "Innocent words get caught in the crossfire"The thing is, while we can all agree that there are some words that really shouldn't belong in chat on a Minecraft server, the practicalities of maintaining filters for those swear words and common bypasses for those words in multiple languages ends up with innocent words getting caught in the crossfire. It is in everyones interest to keep those filters as narrow as possible to keep chat usable for everyone. I've already gone through and fixed a lot of the old filters and rewritten quite a few others because they were far too broad. I've also gone through a few of the 'toxic' words and allowed them in party chat, noob and ez fall into this category.
This thread is still open and I'll review any valid suggestions put there: https://www.cubecraft.net/threads/chat-filter-word-requests.212389/
This is a lot harder to do when you don't get instant notification that you've been blocked, I realise that you can't begin to appreciate what this means as a user.Replace a letter and congratz, you successfully bypassed the chat filter!
By that measure you are complaining without actually knowing if you have something to complain about. We are not going to start giving feedback on blocked messages, so stop asking for it, if you'd like to help let us know which words need reviewing. This thread is at 2 pages and as of yet, not a single suggestion has been forthcoming. I'm locking this thread now, if you have words that need adding, removing or being allowed in party chat you can suggest them here: https://www.cubecraft.net/threads/chat-filter-word-requests.212389/We. Cannot. Report. Innocent. Words. If. We. Cant. See. That. Our. Message. Got. Blocked.
