let me clear up a few things here. First 1.9 combat is slow paced. Nothing bad with that but many pvpers and players in general liked pvp (Potpvp take for example) For its fast paced style. With say potpvp fights lasting 3-5 minutes assuming no one quickies in 1.8. In 1.9 that would last atleast 10 minutes. I dont hate 1.9 combat its fine. It does fit with some gamemodes. I dont like 1.9 like many other pvpers in the pvp community. It just isnt has fun as 1.8s fast paced play style to me. Also let me say something. Mojang HATES the pvp community. They say block hitting was a "bug" than take away the reason people find pvp fun. I know minecraft isnt spose to be hyper realistic but it makes no sense in general that stone axes and other axes do 9 damage but swords deal 7 still. Kb being randomized it ok and good. . Shields arnt that bad but the thing is it needs tweaking.

If more people wanted 1.8 PvP then most servers would stay on 1.8. But that's not true, so they switched to 1.9.

Hang on... You have fights that last longer than a minute? Unless they try to run away or you both have extremely OP gear then a fight shouldn't take more than a minute. Especially in 1.8. I've never had a fight last more than five minutes tops, and that was with the best gear with multiple sets in eggwars.

Erm... Cubecraft is like the only "big" server which uses 1.9 pvp

If you play with an axe then yes, if you're not an idiot and play with a sword then no.

Okay so I have seen a lot of replies defending aspects of 1.9, but none have been about why 1.9 is actually Superior. In 1.8 everything is more fast paced, pot pvp and build uhc are great examples of this, in pot you have to refill your potions fast, pearl away fast, time when you eat and drink speed pots. You have to have fast reflexes (and a low fire pack). Build Uhc is all about strategy and reflexes, you have to try and lava the enemy, counter their lava with a water bucket, build over their lava or water, build structures so you can gap without being bowed, the list goes on. On 1.9 if you use anything that is not your sword or your off hand, you get punished by having to recharge your sword, not to mention people take less knock back and take less damage.

Cleaning happens a lot less since the regen system with food is better
Shield blocks bowspammers
Potion arrows add more strategy
Winning depends less on a few milliseconds of ping and how fast you can click and more on skill (note that I am not saying 1.8 doesn't require skill) like timing and crits and circlestrafing and all kinds of strategies that come with it.

Same applies to 1.9

Which takes about half a second.
Not to mention, same applies to 1.8, you need to switch to your sword again, look at the enemy again, and start clicking again. You get the same "punishment".
not to mention people take less knock back
IMO better

Your smart if you use it in pvp because the mojang took away block hitting which is stupid. Plus its useful between attack cooldowns.

It's easy to win a fight without a shield, that's for sure. Also, having shields to block things makes more sense than using a sword.

Also, cleaning isn't something you can really "fix". If someone gets the drop on you while your healing from a fight, that's fair. They used strategy by waiting until you're weak. Sure, it's annoying, but it's a genuine strategy. If you want to avoid there are all kinds of things you can do. My main point is that cleaning isn't related to the actual combat whatsoever and it's just something you have to deal with.

Never talk about realisticness in mc (totally a word) Mlg water buckets, punching trees, lack of gravity, mc isn't supposed to be realistic, as we learned with 1.9 pvp more realistic = more bad.

Also, CommunistCactus is right. Click speed =/= skill. Maybe it does in your eyes, but some people prefer more diverse strategies and skills rather than who can click faster. Seriously, the old way relies way too much on ping and your mouse. I get that those aren't the only factors, but the main factors for non-competitive players.

A single steak will not save you in combat. And like I said, cleanup is something that will always exist. There's not much you can do about it. It exists IRL, it exists in any PvP game; If you're jumped by someone while you're weak, they can get an easy advantage. It's just how life is and it's not something you should complain about or use as a major argument.

I have little to no experience with "cave fights" in PvP. I really only play eggwars, blockwars, the PvP gamemode, and a few games on other servers. I don't play UHC, which is what you're referring to here, right (Correct me if I'm wrong)? Anyways, 1.9 PvP works here too. I don't see any downsides to 1.9 PvP in any places other than it's not based on click speed. Because in a cave where you can't move around as much, that's the main factor.

I also don't understand why it's even worth arguing about anymore. The update's over a year old and it's clear that it won't be changed back. So why do we still talk about it? People spend more time complaining about it than they do getting used to it and mastering it. There's not too much difference between it and 1.8, so if you were a pro at 1.8 PvP it shouldn't be too hard to learn 1.9 PvP.

IMO That's exactly why 1.9 is better. Timing your hits requires more skill than clicking as fast as possible.

To be honest I started to play 1.8 again recently and it isn't that bad. All you need is Prplz's MouseDelayFix mod and Labymod and its very very easy, I think I've played about 25 eggwars games and won 23 (including a no armour challenge one that I'll upload to youtube soon). The problem I have with 1.8 is it is very very boring after a while. For example I can play the 1.9 version of eggwars for hours on end, because there are so many more features and opponents use a variety of tactics (slowness arrows, shields, axes to disable those shields, etc) as opposed to 1.8 where people either bowspam or melee.
So yeah 1.8 is not as bad as everyone thinks, it is very easy so its very fun to just destroy everyone in melee, but after a while it gets boring because it is too easy, perhaps there could be more features/plugins they can add in 1.8 games to make them more entertaining

Heres another one of my speeches.

I know this comes down to preference so Ill just say why most pvpers including myself dont play 1.9. First its slow paced and fights take forever compared to 1.8. A potpvp duel could take what, up to 5 minutes in 1.8. With a 1.6 cps cap in 1.9 it would take forever in a potpvp duel.Also I think it may just be me but its makes no since that a stone axe (Or iron or diamond axe(Also a wooden axe does as much as a diamond sword)) Does more damage then a diamond sword. The axe is not for fighting its for chopping wood and mcmmo if your into that. Secondly its stupid that they took away block hitting. It was not a bug like mojang claimed but it brings me to my next point. MOJANG HATES THE PVP COMMUNITY. Watch this video for reference. Im not all against 1.9 however. The new blocks were lit. The elytra has to be the best thing they added since 1.0. Lingering potions and levitation effect are cool.Shulkers are also cool. Also I understand that 1.9 does fit into some gamemodes.


Atleast Im not all like "1.9 SUCKS IT SHOULD BE REMOVED ALL 1.9ERS ARE NOOBS!!!!" Aight
