Who was the last person that actually cared about messages?
I'm excluding @Masonhgg from this though.
If you claim that requesting for locks is post farming, so is bumping a thread.
And for necro-ed threads, if they're dead, no reason to lock as it's buried now.

Bumping lets other people see the thread and share their thoughts, so yes, I'm indirectly contributing by allowing others to voice their opinions.

This is how I feel. My intentions when bumping this thread aren't to see my message count go up at all. I could go post farm elsewhere if I wanted too. I just want to bring more attention to the topic and my stance, which hopefully has been made plenty clear at this point.

yeah exactly. They're trying to do the exact same thing as you, bringing it to staff's attention. Is there a reason why you care so much about people asking for locks? If you're thinking about mini-modding, I can give you a link to a thread that was talking about the mini-modding rule. People asking for locks can ask for locks and should definitely not be punished for it. If you are, you might as well ban every single player in this community for doing so. It doesn't make sense at all.

I dislike that. Punishing people based on "Mini-Modding" shouldn't happen. It's the mod's choice to do something and it's the person's choice. Besides being annoying what else is there? Mini- modding? Nearly every single person that helped ONCE should be banned then.

Pft, not banned just a small warning. But on the subject no, they shouldn't be punished for that.. That's a stupid reason... Unless they do it to often.

I do agree with this thread but i don't think a straight up punishment is the way to go, probably as a first offence is that a staff member starts a conversation with the person who broke the rule and explaining to him/her that they shouldn't repeat it and there punishment is for the staff member to delete the post where the player requested a Lock making it appear as the member never requested a lock
Second offence might have to be a temporary mute or can no longer tag staff members for a temporary amount of time
etc
of course some punishments have to expire, meaning if someone makes a first offence then after a few weeks/months pass by their punishment becomes the same as the first one but if staff members notice some sort of pattern meaning they never learn they progress to the next stage of the punishment

Unrelated note: u know those who are tagging the staff members as a joke requesting a lock is against the rules right ;)

I don't think that there should be any rule against it. It should just stay as is, but it's always the staff member's choice to take an action.

But it can be disrespectful, especially if someone puts a lot of thought into a thread and other's decide to just start requesting locks.

Let's see: what are the threads that people usually ask for locks?
1: Anti-cheat, which is easy to suggest, and a no-brainer as well.
2: Answered threads which isn't rude at all to ask for a lock.
3: Extremely Rude threads that break the rules which I don't mind asking for a lock as that person was rude anyways.
4: Suggestions that are already being worked on which is probably something that might take some effort so I understand if you think it's rude for this.
5: Reports, which doesn't take a long time.
6: advertising threads-those need staff attention and even if it does "revive" it, it gets removed ASAP so those fine in my opinion.
7: threads that accidentally break rules which may take some time to think about, but for most part, most of them are questions or requests for updates.
8: threads that have to do with like "most favorite blah blah blah that include people"

If you think that asking for one is rude, let's go through each one again.

1: Asking for locks aren't really that rude TBH. Most people are informing them that they already are creating one. Most people will understand and not be unhappy knowing that there's hope.
2: How is it rude to ask for a lock on an answered thread?
3: Those should be locked ASAP or edited. I would think that it would be a good idea to get that to staff attention. Plus, it kinda feels like Karma for those sort of threads.
4: I think that asking for a lock for these threads may actually be somewhat rude, mostly because some of those things take some time to think up.
5: I mean most of the reports are screenshots anyways and since it won't be accepted anyways, it won't matter.
6: N/A (bots don't have feelings)

I'm leaning towards suggestions, which hopefully you agree with, can be rude to just ask for it to be shut down. I have seen countless times where revived ideas have been asked for a lock because it wasn't accepted before or because they think it's impractical. So honestly if you want to limit this rule to just suggestions I'm all for it.

That's completely fine by me. Like I said, THOSE types of requests are rude. It should just be looked sort of down upon but never a punishment.
